Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Roger, That might be a tough thing to find or fix, but anything is possible.

I would examine it and see if it can be fixed first and also do a parts search to see if you can find it.

GE also sold a kit to convert it to a standard infinite switch, you might find one of these, but I would rather have it working as designed.

Automatic Temperature Controlled Surface Elements

Yes Phil we need to figure a way to retrofit or fix these wonderful element controls.

The later popular GE ST system uses a 17.5 Ohm thermistor, we need to see if we can fit a new TM to the King-Seeley head assembly. I could send you a dead one Phil if you want to try fixing one.

For Rogers hydraulic control I would like to see what is wrong with it, these were pretty durable, often on these when they stopped working a wire was often just loose or broken on the element connection.

I love my 5 element 1972 Thermador drop-in range, on it I converted both front elements to Robertshaw  controlled elements and they are wonderful, it would be cool to have all the elements automatic.

Hope to start working on it...

in the next few days, in between looking for toilet paper... LOL.

Seriously, I'll be taking it apart for shipment for porcelain restoration,
and hopefully it'll be just a wiring issue that's repairable As John says have found them to be pretty reliable on those GE/HPs we've had of the vintage that had the fluid type.

Also I'll have a consult with our son who works for Agilent/HP and does R&D/testing of electronic and mechanical control systems for medical instrumentation. Among their products for hospitals and Pharma they make medical analyzers used for Coronavirus so they're pretty busy these days. Perhaps an Arduino could be made to provide automatic/variable control of electric burners. But definitely would like to get the original Auto Calrod system working if at all possible.
