I am now an Automatic Washer Owner

Hi everyone, I've been on this site for a couple of years, but I rarely post because...well, I didn't have any automatic washers. Well, last night I drove from Cincinnati, to Indianapolis and picked up a set of 1970 Maytag Center Dials. The washer is an A206, and the dryer is a DE306. Sure, they're not top of the line, but they'll do a load of laundry well.

This week has been one of laundry aquisitions, as I also purchased my first wringer washer. It's a later Speed Queen, but though it turns on, and the wringer works, I can't get it to agitate. I guess Volvoguy87 (my past and future roommate) has his work cut out for him.

I love 206's!! IIRC Maytag was the only manufacturer at that time that offered their full range of color options on their BOL's. Please post some pictures. Love that pearl grey trim, love that blue tub, love that black 'n' blue powerfin! Haven't seen a D306 in ages, please be sure to include some pictures of that control panel and that control dial.

We had a 206 for 27 years without a problem. The timer had to be replaced once, but that was it. It will serve you well for a long time.

Bajaespuma. Thanks for posting a picture with the agitator. It was not too often seen; as most other models had the turquoise Power Fins.

I'm guessing that's rust deposits in the washer tub. Friends of my parents had that dryer, it replaced a 1957 Control Tower Flowing Heat (Not Filtrator) Frigidaire dryer.

What kind of shenanigans were the owners of the A206 pulling? Anyone out there have a nice Maytag regular capacity tub you don't want? It might be easier to replace than clean. Also, if cleaning is to commence, I think the inner tub should be pulled anyway to clean the outer tub. Is it safe to use CLR on the porcelain?

Yes, I am THINKING about moving to Cincinnati, but nothing is certain yet. I have been unable to find a job in historic preservation ANYWHERE! My 1st choice was Boston, but I can't support myself there working a crappy job. Cincy is cheap so it is a possibility.

Wes, don't preheat your deep fryer before your chickens have hatched.

What do you Ohio people say, is Cincy worth the move?
