Well I had to do it. Though I managed to get 18 years out of the old one, it's time had come. The leak in the upper tank was so bad that over half of the water didn't make it to the coffee below. Because the unit was purchased in 1992 Bunn no longer stocked the upper tank for that unit as the design had slightly changed and they were not compatable. I will admit that the tank was more than likely full of lime even with regular maintenance.

I had looked at the regulars Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Target for a new coffee maker and just couldn't bring myself to buy another brand, but I didn't want the thermal pot, and I didn't want it in black. So I was at Sear's Monday and they not only had what I wanted in Stainless/White, but it was on sale.

There have been some changes from my older model. You no longer need to use the pitcher to pour water with the pot in place as there is a stopper in the upper tank that is activated when the door is open. You can use the pot to pour water and then when you close the door the water is released. I kept my pitcher because that's the way I've always done it.

So I can still brew great coffee, quickly as well as my Ice Tea pot still works with this model (I noticed on the Bunn website that the Ice-Tea pitcher is no longer an available option. That's ok I found a spare at goodwill for $1.99

Well here's to hoping that this one last 18 years or longer. You just gotta love a Bunn.

I have had my Bunn for 2 years

and love it. By the time I get my coffee cups, cream and sugar out and ready, I have a pot of good coffee. Worth every penny.

I have a Bunn too....started out with the model you got....then moved on the VSR series.......now I have the professional one....hooked up to water, and 220 power, with three warmers and a hot water tap, just load with coffee and press a button, 3 minutes later I have coffee.....

Yes we are coffee addicts

Great coffee pots!

My parents got their first Bunn coffee pot back in 1992 (white plastic body with a seperate fill pitcher). It lasted nearly 15 years, even with extremely hard water. I've had one since 2002 because my Mr. Coffee was too slow.

I'd highly recommend one to anyone who wants a simple, well-made coffee pot that won't die within six months to a year. And most importantly, they're made in the U.S.A.!

I've been wondering something about the Bunn. I read someplace the details about the technology. I can't remember the details, but one question came up at that time: can a Bunn make less than the "full" amount (which appears to be about 10 cups on the machines I've seen advertised)?

Aspects of the Bunn (like fast brewing) are a real perk (sorry--couldn't resist!), but I seldom make 10 cups.

Martin--thanks for answering my question!

"I'll stick with my vintage Norelco Dial-A-Brew. Still going strong after 30+ years, and great coffee every time."

And I'm sticking with my old Farberware 6 cup percolator for the moment. Except on the days I feel like using the Corningware Electromatic. Or the days I feel like the Sunbeam Coffeemaster. And if a Bunn shows up, cheap, I might as well consider adding that to the fleet.

Hard to believe I once had only ONE coffee maker available!
