Robert, just like you, my favs are "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie". Bewitched is on DVD and if you buy the first season, you will see all sorts of vintage appliances in Samantha's kitchen. GM Frigidaire of course. Also, lots of great Corningware/Pyrex coffee pots also!!

Buy the first season!!! Are you kidding me Shane LOL? I bought seasons 1 thru 4 the first week each one of those were released. But there is exciting news, this Tuesday Bewitched season 5 gets relased YAY! I've been waiting nine months since the last relase, they are releasing Bewitched sets one season every 7 to 9 months, Jeannie is being relased a lot quicker.

Which means that a nearly-new turquoise 806 (GASP! SOB!!) was gutted by the prop department and fitted with whatever was needed for the comedy effects.

I only hope they bought it, and that it wasn't a "promotional consideration" deal with Maytag. 806s deserved a better showcasing than that.

I'm not too sure about that Sandy, if they simply poured a couple of boxes of 1968 Tide into that turquoise 806 and selected low water and high speed agitation, I bet they could have produce suds like that without having to gut the washer. That would be a fun experiment to try actually. Hmmm now who has a turquoise Maytag 806 around here? Oh yeah, that's right, Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Don LOL.

As For the clothes flying out I'm sure they used clear fishing line (like they used to in Bewitched) and quickly yanked them out from above.
 
I wonder if washer enthusiasts at the time were saying "Well, at least they're ruining a new machine and not one of the beautiful, classic '59s!"

I also wonder which current washers that we tend to dismiss will be more highly regarded 40 years from now; I can't imagine washers getting any more generic-looking than they are now, but who knows.

Or...maybe I should qualify that by saying "...any more generic-looking than they were five years ago." We seem to have bold, bright colors and some retro-futurist styling happening at the moment. That's better than the all-white-bars-of-soap look of, oh, say my three Frigidaires.

I have to admit when I saw the first pic I thought you'd found a set of turquoise 806's!
 
Oh yes, Robert ... Don SHOULD try this little "trick"; doesn't everyone agree? I'm SURE we could find him a box or two of vintage Tide!! :-) Or ... even some vintage Oxydol!!

Jeannie must have discovered the "clothespin trick" to get that 806 to keep on operating with the lid up!!

What is super fun is to take a really good look at the condition of the washer in that first picture. You can easily tell that it is brand new, right out of the box, there is not a spec on it and it just shines. Ohhh it's a peek into the past of what the machine really looked like brand new, even without sitting in the box for 40 years. I just want to blink it right out of the picture and into my living room!

I LOVE the gas flame on the dryer console; everything is gas in Jeannie's kitchen. I wonder if the oven was, too?

That would make a nice conversation piece in the living room, wouldn't it? :-)

I also doubt that they ruined a machine; but as a lover of suds-cake and an inveterate low water level, small load man, very familiar with tons o' suds, I still can't imagine how they did those giant rabbit ears shooting out in picture 5.

Did anyone else have a huge crush on Larry H. before he became J.R. Ewing, besides moi?

Only so I could do one wash load in it, then pass it on to another collector Miss Jeff. It is just a Maytag after all. (ducking and running even faster).
 
I'm a little surprised that the Maytag logo is so clearly visible. No self-respecting producer these days would ever let that happen without getting $$$ for it. Someone who has it, take a look at the closing credits sometime and see if there is a promo-consideration mention for Maytag or a Maytag dealer.

No it does not, I watched it last night and I for sure would have noticed Maytag in the credits. Remember this screen shot was only on screen for two or so seconds, it would have been very hard in 1968 to read Maytag that quickly on the TV screen unless one knows exactly what they are looking at to begin with. Besides would Maytag approve of their machine being shown pouring suds out all over the place as well as throwing clothes out of the machine? Me thinks Maytag would want their logo covered for this episode of Jeannie.

It wouldn't have been in 1968; TV sets back then just weren't capable of that much resolution. If you have HDTV and the DVDs of "Star Trek's" TV episodes, you can see all kinds of nail heads in the plywood sets. In 1968, no one saw them.
