am I wrong?
Yes, I am afraid. The Whirlpool/Maytag washer clean cycle is an entertainment show all it's own.
My 5000 Series Steam Washer begins by doing a quick sensing then adds a little hot water and runs about a minute of tumbling while it tries to detect if you have left anything in the drum. Then it does a partial drain, and begins slowly turning the drum as it steams for about 15 minutes. Then the real fun begins. . . The machine fills to just above the seal about an inch up on the window and then does a few flip/flops like a standard wash cycle and all the sudden it goes into what is about a slow spin and flings the water completely around the drum. You have water splashing and swirling around the door,over the glass with lots of bubbles and splashes. It will then stop and do a few more reverse tumbles and then spin in the opposite direction for a while flinging the water the opposite direction.
There are three water changes to clean out all the chemicals be it Affresh, Tang, or Bleach. Then you pop the door open, dry the seal and door, open the dispenser compartment and everything is fresh and clean.
If you feel the need to interrupt this cycle, like why would you; The door will not immediately unlock. Because it is running on sanatize temperatures, it will drain the super hot water then do two quick fill and drains to flush the chemicals. If interrupted it will not reset the reminder.
I have used this cycle twice since I got my machines in September. Once with Affresh and once with Tide Washer cleaner. Pros and cons;
Tide is very strongly sented, but it's a powder and can be added to the dispenser drawer. I wait and add about a quarter at first then the rest after it does it's first sensing fill. This way everything isn't flushed down the drain in the first minute of the cycle.
Affresh is a puck, hence it bangs for about 15 or 20 minutes while the machine is steaming. You can't put it in the dispenser because it won't fully disolve, and you have to add it at the start of the cycle as the door won't unlock until the cycle is finsished, or you abort. However, Affresh has a light(er) citris sent and leave the machine with a orange fresh smell when finished.
