I have a basement full of missing parts..

So I moved on from the the KD-2P to my pink spin-tube dishmobile. It is missing the fill solenoid. I have several dishwashers for parts (15 or 16 series kitchenaid, an early 70's kenmore roto-rack, and a plastic tube BOL GE). Does anybody know of a reason why I couldn't use the fill solenoid off one of those machines on my Frigidaire machine? I can't think of a reason not to do it off the top of my head, but I thought I would check around first.

And, while I have your attention, if anyone would like to offer advice on the pump seal, that would be great. I took the machine outside today, powered it up, put some water in it, and it leaks at the pump seal. Fortunately the pump and spray-tube assembly work great!. Has anbody changed one of these pump seals out? I am assuming that the seal is NLA, so I am thinking about fabricating one out of a sheet of silicone unless somebody has better ideas (and I am all ears).

That would be a BOL GE plastic tub DW, not a plastic tube DW.

I dont think it would be much of a problem if you used another brand's fill valve so long as it can be mounted somehwat properly and when it fills, that it fills to a proper level. Every valve has a specific fill rate based on its application so you may have to try a few to get it right.

As far as the seal you mentioned.. is the pump seal leaking or the pump to tank seal? It almost sounds like the latter. You can always use a good cork or rubber sealing material to fix it and see if that works. But maybe someone here has the OEM parts for you.

Any luck on the KD2-P drain valve yet?

From what I can gather at first pass, it is definitely leaking at the pump to tank seal, and I think it might also be leaking from the pump seal as well. I'm glad to know you are thinking that at least first pass my methods seem reasonable.

No luck thus for on the KD-2P. If I am slow enough during the day at work this week I am going to see if I can contact Hobart.

You will be very lucky if you call them and there is even anyone who knows what you are talking about. You are talking about a machine from the 1950's and Hobart sold KA 26 years ago so just about everyone who works in any of their parts rooms who might have a clue as to what you need has long since disappeared. They will refer you to Whirlpool and they know even less and if they knew, they would probably tell you nothing is available anyway!

Also, just about none of the Hobart offices even serviced the Kitchenaid domestic major appliances like dw's and compactors. So again, not much to be gained from them. There are only a few of us who were KA fanatics and had the wherewith all to be able to see the connections between the commercial and domestic lines.

So your best bet for info is right here on this forum. There are people who still know these machines like the back of their hands and I learn something new form them every day!
