I just got two KitchenAids, so why not a third??

It's logical, right?? I got pure-dumb-lucky checking through the Montreal craigslists ads (June and July are BIG moving months here) and I spotted this dishwasher. It was simply described as 'an older portable dishwasher'...

To me, this looked like a Regency and those sure looked like original owners manuals on top of the Harvest Gold finish cabinet... I had to go look. They were asking $60... And....

I got it! It actually turned out to be a 'Deluxe' model.

I don't know much about this particular model, but boy, they were popular in the Montreal area in Coppertone. I remember seeing at least five of them in homes of school friends and a few years back, they would turn up every few months at the local Sally Ann. But I don't remember seeing one in Harvest Gold... Well, I get to see it now! LOL

Overall, it's in decent shape. A little 'rack rot' and Cote de Neiges water seems as if it was rich in iron... Still, that can all be dealt with. A little Iron-Out or CLR in the tub should clean up that finish nicely.
Oh, and I had to do the 'bucket test'... The KDD-67 passed! The motor ran smoothly and I could really hear the water moving around inside. Even better, I did not observe any leaks! YAY!

I should have brought them back with me to scan but I have the owner's booklet for this and the KDR-67 model with operating instructions and loading tips. There is even a section advertising other KitchenAid products (trash compactor, disposer, coffee mill, mixer, and hot water dispenser). It's the 'Canadian' edition, too - in English and French. But the dishwasher itself was made in Troy, Ohio. I am not sure of a date of manufacture, but the booklet had a code 7-74; I would hazard a guess the machine was made sometime after late 1974. Can't wait to give this one a test wash!!!

OMG thats the dishwasher I had growing up. That dishwasher washed for 7 people. I used to run it twice a day. Very basic machine. Full cycle gives a half hour wash/rinse phases total in time. The upper rack is not adjustable. Bottom has the plates in the middle and smaller plates on the sides. The edges I would put cereal bowls...3 on each side. It also has the SaniGuard filter. Stainless mesh on top and plastic mesh for the body. It also has the course strainer and tray.
A Power house of a machine. If loaded correctly and not BobLoaded it will do a fantastic job. One drawback...it does not heat the water. What is coming out of your tap is what you wash with. Your water needs to be at least 150 with this machine. It does have the Flo thru sanitized drying. It also has the pressure switch to prevent overflow.
To start the machine just hook it up to the faucet,plug in, load it, add detergent and press the cycle knob. Motor will start and water will come in. Motor runs continuously until dry phase. What i thought was neat was when it was filling and the drone the pump made as it was pumping water thru the HydroSweep and Whooooosh it would make. This machine is not quiet and its not insulated on the tank. But very cool...those pics brought back memories...

here's the hobart production date chart for you.

you will love that machine! there is nothing like an old kitchenaid with the single spray arm! models 15-17 are my all time favorites! nothing beats them.

parts are everywhere! just saw hydrosweeps on e bay and bought a brand new one for around 15 bucks. saw a timer recently too, and racks pop up all the time. ofcourse motors and seals you can get thru hobart and larry in parma had some last time i checked.

that machine will probably run another 40 years before leaking!
i have about 22 kitchenaids now and have only had 2 that leaked when i got them! those seals are really long lasting!

Anybody notice?

That the rack is from an 18-23 series machine. The original must have been in really bad shape.
I think that rack makes for a better chance of the top rack getting more water to it especially on the left side since it is more likely that plates and bowls will go there and maybe pots on the right. SO load the top accordingly and results will be pretty good.

Peter--Thanks for posting the KitchenAid/Hobart production chart. I do believe the dishwasher I had back in the 80's was a Hobart, as I bought it early in '84. That chart must never be lost from this site! It answers a lot of questions.
