I had been watching this on Ebay. Sent the guy a email and turns out he listed it for his in-laws. They bought it new when the were young and just married. It was pretty well taken care of. I need new hoses underneath but is complete and working. Anyway made him an offer if it didn't sell for what he was looking for and he accepted. I drove up this weekend and collected it.

thanks guys

@washdaddy: the tubs look great. I seems to be well cared for. It was in a fairly dry basement most of it's life. It hadn't been used in years and needs a good general cleaning. I'll eventually repaint it and polish it all up.

@chestermikeuk: yes it is my first twin tub. Unfortunately when they took it out of storage and plugged it in to test it the pump tire got a flat spot burned into it. I see it's still available though. You've got quite a a nice collection there. The ocv valve was also frozen but a bit of penetrating oil and a tap from a mallet freed it right up. It must have given the little lady troubles back in day it has strike marks on it. Can you tell me what the ocv retaining clip is that I keep seeing online? Does it go around the opening on the drain hose side? the washer on the tub drain selector is also shot but I'm sure I can fabricate that.

OCV Clip

Here is a breakdown of the Ocv (Outlet Control Valve) ring, it goes inside the valve over the ball that controls the flow of water between the wash and spin drain outlets!! nice machines to work on, have taken many apart and if parts are NLA then a few workarounds are usually easily sorted...Was your model produced in North Canton or UK?

Whats the condition of the drain outlet hose?

Thanks for the diagram

It was produced in the UK. I will shoot more photos today. I believe you have one pictured that looks the same with the silver spinner door instead of the blue. Thanks so much for the diagram again. I look forward to tinkering with it. The hose is the grey ribbed rubber and is pliable. I'm not sure it's the original though it looks never used. I suspect it's a replacement. It looks much longer and the outlet is a different shape then what I've seen in videos on youtube. It also has a good fill tube with pliable fitting.

Congratulations Matthew on getting this great machine.

The longer hose is actually from a later model where it exited from the lower rear of the machine and hooked up over the sink. The hole in the wash tub lid was designed to let the end of the original hose pass through so that suds could be returned to the wash tube on the first spin.

As with any vintage machine but a bucket of HOT water first into the spin can and leave it to sit for about a half hour and then check for leaks. If no leaks then spin it into the wash tub and leave it there for a half hour. Still no leaks then top it up to above the impellor with more hot water, and leave it again for about half and hour. to check for further leaks.

WITH THE CORD REMOVED FROM THE WALL SOCKET gently turn the impellor, to help free it up, in older machines they can often be a bit "sticky" at first, but the hot water will be a great help in freeing it up. Before you try switching on the motor fill the machine up to the water mark, otherwise you are likely to have a shower you were not expecting.

The good news is that if you need to replace the hoses, automotive water hoses should be fine and are easily available at modest cost, indeed it will also work on the pump outlet on the top of the machine.

These machines are notorious for tangling so its best to put the clothes in with the machine off and then switch on, making sure the clothes move easily.

Finally, when emptying the wash tub make sure the lid is in place until the water level has dropped below the level of the impeller, or again you risk a shower.

here are UK instructions, just ignore the bits about the heater

Happy washing

Al

A HUGE thank you Vacbear.

Thanks so much for the advice and instructions. The machine and pump do spin freely. I do know the owners son in law plugged it in to see if it worked. the pump tire or Tyre is quite dry and it burned a flat spot in it. I'll do the a water test this coming week. I can tell you the sump drain hose is very brittle so I might wait till I get those fixed up. I wouldn't want to get all the machinery in there wet. Once again thanks for the instructions I appreciate it.

Matthew

I tore into it this weekend.

Could one of you kind Gentlemen post an exploded view of the spinner bearing? I've got quite a bit of the machine disassembled. I want to clean it up and lubricate it as best I can before putting it into use. I've already removed and cleaned up both pumps waiting for gasket material to arrive to put them back together. Will drop by the auto parts store and get some heater hose to replace the hoses from the pump to the ocv valve. I'm looking forward to putting this thing back to use.

All looking great and yes best to give it a tune up before use, as Al says the hose is from a later model, I have seen those used but cut shorter, similarly you can keep it that length, the original could be a tad too short to get over a tall sink in many cases!!

Here`s the spin can and bearing housing, hows the resiliant rubber mount (246)?
