~Which of those spices is REALLY $621.33, $60.69, and $58.56???
I do believe it is PER POUND (16 ounces). One typically buys just a portion of an ounce at a time!
Sometimes prices are per 100 count (or toher odd units), so one really has to read pricing labels!
Last night I found Barilla brand pasta on sale for $0.69 per pound. So a one pound box is.... DING DING DING DING $0.69.
WHOLE WHEAT Barilla brand pasta is also $0.69 PER BOX, BUT FOR 12 ounces (3/4 or a pound at $0.92 per pound.) Tricky, huh?
So basically those truth-in-labeling pricing tags in my state can be VERY misleading, if you are not thinking.
My favorite is that, let's say, for canned tomato sauce, one brand is priced in ounces, another in pounds and a third in quarts. So the law had been effectively circumvented. Comparison shopping (the intent of the law) is not so easy.
