I went to an elderly lady's sale today. She was the secretary of the school.
She was always so well dressed and worldly. I can't believe she lived in a house so outdated?
The kitchen had two stoves. She was still cooking on the wood stove. Single temperature taps on a sink in another room. One bathroom on the ground floor and no shower. It was wonderful.

Lots of people cook on wood stoves, they can heat up the house and cook altogheter.. food tastes greater also.
Nice...I'd get all that stuff...love the stove, stash, bathtub sink and the fan in the basement..love all that I saw here..
Thanks for sharing...[this post was last edited: 3/28/2015-20:56]

'The Stash'

I've noticed around here that estate sales companies no longer sell all the old chemicals and cleaners, probably due to liability, however they have no problem putting them in a pile and offering them for free! I still need to try out that bottle of Glo-Coat I scored last fall : )

Parents' Cleanout Job

My sister and I should have applied for Superfund monies when we cleaned-out their place after their deaths five weeks apart in 2010.

Not to mention the toxic chems we found in the old man's shed. Lots unmarked. There were the bulging cans in the pantry. Spices marked 9 cents (when was the last time you bought ANYTHING for 9 cents?). Cleaning products (leaking) that pretty much ate thru the flooring in their under-the-sink cabinets in the kitchen and the bathroom.

We survived without hazmat suits. Your mileage may vary.

The TV set seems to have a sticker similar to the one that's at the back of my 1972 RCA tv in it's screen:

I have seen versions of this sticker that were red/white and other colors too, on many brands of appliances and electronics that were made here.

Did you notice the brand of the TV set? If it's the same sticker, it's weird that it was never removed from the screen!

In 1972 after decades I visited Grandma's house. I could tell what room I was in blindfolded. Even which CORNER of the basement. But then she was MY grandma.

Now I live in a building with 5 dozen OTHER PEOPLES' grandmas. Lemme tellya, there ain't nothing nostalgic about that AT ALL.

My Mom & I are going thru this same scenario.  We're currently working on cleaning out the house of an elderly woman Mom is POA for.  Her late husband was a collector/hoarder of anything & everything.  Just yesterday while at the house I discovered a stash of Stanley Home Products (Degreaser, Try-It etc) in a cabinet in the upstairs bathroom.  Many, many boxes to go thru after we finish disposing of all the old bank statements and the like first.  We will be hiring someone to run the estate sale for us.

Wow, what a stash!!  Did you fill a trailer for yourself, Brian??  LOL

You know, to the late owner, the house probably didn't seem 'outdated' or 'old-fashioned' in any way.  She was probably grateful to have the things she did have and treated them carefully.

But, wow, if I'd have been there, I'd have pounced on that ol' GE canister vac and the iron in the box!
