Am really going to have to seek professional help! Out of town of couse to stop the neighbors from talking.

Well as if one needed them here are the recent additions to my detergent/laundry product stash.

According to the packet, Wisk is made by Lever Brothers in Ontario, Canada. This explains the directions in English, French and Spanish on the box. Cheer is from good ole Proctor and Gamble in the United States and has that wonderful fragrance I remember from the past (mother used Cheer back in the day).

As both certianly aren't "HE" friendly don't think shall use either in the Miele. However there is always the Hoover TT or Whirlpool portable TL.

Now please excuse me, have to get Suzie Orman on the line about cutting down on excess spending! *LOL*

Whisk in a box???

I remember it in a dark red plastic bottle.  Mom used it for pre-spotting but never the whole wash.  Man, I remember that stuff made mountains of suds - even in hard well water!

IIRC from going to laundromats when a wee slip of a thing, inside these coin vended boxes is another plastic pouch that contains the liquid detergent. Much like the small boxes of Downy fabric softener have liquid inside as well.

Those coin vend machines on this side are set up for boxes, not bags. Besides there is less chance of damage and or leaking I should think.
 
Launderess what you really need to do is enlist your neighbors for help in the search! Over here they are actively looking for "old stuff" to add to the collection!

You have absolutely NO sense of adventure! Front load washers with rabies (foaming at the mouth) makes for great pictures/videos, especially when the machines aren't yours... LOL!

Besides, quite a few customers who buy new HE washers don't care (at first, anyway) and still use that overflowing capfull of ultra concentrated liquid detergent like they still had that $199 beater washer. I LOVE fielding THOSE calls as the customer expects me to come out and desuds the washer, under warranty of course...

I used to love to go to the coin op laundermats when I was little - always had to have a box of soap as a souvenier. 

About 25 years ago my parents were on a trip and went to the laundermat - their gift to me from that trip was a small box of Cheer  - still have it in the cupboard over the Miele with the various Persils that I use.  Just pulled it out and it has instructions for both top loaders and front loaders and contains 9.5% phosphates!

 

We have family photos of us, usually taken on road trips to visit my dad's family in WV.  Invariably, I was front and center with a big smile holding a box of Tide or something! 

 

There must be a support group for people like us!

Nope, am not even going to try using these detergents in the Miele, even with added anti-foaming agent at hand.

Having seen the trouble another member went through attempting to fix the seals in his Miele, am determined to keep mine's in good order. *LOL*

Wisk in particular may pose a problem. It's been years since one used the liquid in those red bottles, but if the above post is correct about how much froth it creates, then that is a deal breaker.
 
When Wisk first introduced a powder detergent in the 90s, it was low sudsing, along with the ultra concentrated formulas of Tide, Fab & Cheer. The first RCA Whirlpool Combo I got in late 1968 was used by a friend's mother and she used one of the little red plastic caps of Wisk from the round, metal can in each load. There were slightly more suds (observed through the sight glass behind the lower panel) in the wash than in the rinses because of the nature of liquids, even then. Not counting the amount needed to saturate the load, each fill was three gallons.
 
Well The Vintage "Gain" Powder

Am currently using makes no suds in my Miele. Just tired it today without defoaming agent and when one opened the door after the wash water drained; no suds.

Used the recommended amount as given on the box for front loading washers (1/2), and that *should* have produced suds "half way up" the window according to the packet. Guess front loaders in those days used more water.

This stuff rinses just as clean as Persil or any of the TOL modern "HE"/European detergents. By the second or third rinse water is totally clear. In fact aside from the colouring of the product, the wash water is quite clear as well. Methinks vintage Gain detergent was loaded with STPP.
 
FAB Ultra

I purchased 2 boxes of Fab Ultra powder this morning at my local Publix store. It is on sale for 3.99 per box BOBO free. So that was less than 2 bucks a box. It probably wont do much in the wash, but next to Tide on the shelf which was 8.99 a box, I couldn't resist it.
