I need help to choose a new vacuum

There are very good barely used Kirbys on CL all the time for a fraction of their original price.  I have 2 and bought my mother one also.  I ain't payin' $2000 for a new one!

Got to say I love my Kirbys. the last one I picked up at GW for $40 had EVERY attachment, the original receipt and even the video.  It's a G5 and I can't say I've ever had anything that has cleaned better.  I rarely use the attachments, I have canister vacs for that, but when I did use the hose a few weeks ago I was impressed with the suction, it rivalled my mid sized shop vac!

 

I will say they are a bit heavy, and I've been lucky enough to pick up 3 at very good prices so I keep one on each floor so no carrying up and down stairs.  Love the power drive and the HEPA bags too.  The bare floor nozzle is interesting but once I got used to manoeuvring it I was surprised at how handy it is.

I've had my eyes on the Sebo Felix for a few years now. I have mostly hard floors with one carpeted room and some area rugs. It comes with a powernozzle and the parquet brush for hard floors. The machine is extremely versatile and has several more attachment options to choose from. They are variable speed, extremely quiet even at top speed, and has great filtration. 

My daily driver has been a Dyson DC17 for the last several years which has been fine, I chose that because of it's versatility that I need for what I'm cleaning. I still overall do not like bagless though. The DC17 and DC28 are about the only really decent vacuums Dyson ever made.

I was raised with a Filter Queen, and have always been a canister fan.  I have 6 Electrolux, and I use all of them.  They all use the same bags, same tools, same power nozzels.  Two are new enough that they require a different hose from the other four.  My favorite is a Super J.

MIELE!

I love my Miele U1 Dynamic Maverick. CR just tested it and said it didn't do as well as the Cat and Dog version. That's hard to believe, but who cares. I buy the bags through Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon and the filters are included as well. It isn't a bad deal. I never have to clean anything out. Our old Bissel required a cleaning every time it was used. Because of this vacuuming was a hassle and generally made a bigger mess than what we were going to clean up. Also, it is by far the most quiet and powerful vacuum I have ever used. It will shit on a Dyson any day of the week. Also, I purchased mine through Bed Bath and Beyond when it was in sale and used a 20% off coupon. It ended up being approximately $260.

I love vacuum cleaners! They were the very first appliances that I actually got to use as a child. Over my 67 years I’ve used and owned just about every brand and type there is,except for a central vac system. Right now we have a new generation Constellation that we got about 10 years ago, an Oreck thats about 8 years old, a Prolux Upright (a Riccar knockoff) and a Kenmore 29319 canister. We live in a two story townhouse that is all wall to wall carpeted, except for the kitchen and the bathrooms. Without doubt the Kenmore is the best of all and our daily driver. The Hoover Constellation is the other most used, the others just gather dust.

Both David and I like the Kenmore canister best because of the versatility and maneuverability. It also does an excellent job keeping our carpets looking like new. It’s easy to use, has on board attachments and is BAGGED. I hate bagless vacuums! They are a mess to empty and the filters are a PITA to clean.

Over the years we’ve owned 5 of these Kenmore’s, all great. On one the electircal connection in the handle wore out, so the power head wouldn’t work. but the others never had any problems. The only reason they were replaced was because of my irrational obsession with getting yet another vacuum, which I imagine most here can relate to.

But if one could only have one vacuum, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this reasonably priced Kenmore 29319, it will do everything you need it to do.

$1400 for a vacuum... well, if he arrived here with a Miele vacuum under his arm I don't know if I'd kiss him or divorce him. ROFL

Maybe I'd look at him with the same face I looked when he immediatelly got the message and took that cat away from here.

We have much things that are more important than a super premium vacuum cleaner and our budget is still comfortable, but tight.

A central vac... humm, I always dreamed about having one. But of course I won't even consider that in a rented apartment. (I won't even mention i want to move out ASAP.)

Imo get the best used bagged canister you can find.
Riccar/Simplcity, Kenmore/Panasonic being my top choices. Miele vacuums have toy-like attachments and smailer more expensive bags and filters. Not a great value although they have a following.
Here is a place in Costa Mesa that may have a deal or two.
If you are planning a trip to San Diego I have a couple...hundred...vacuums, I very well could have one that you may like.

I set searches for things I want on Craigslist and one of them is for Royal vacuum as I have and like a couple of their cannister vac. I always get hits mostly for overpriced Kirby style uprights. I found my last 4650 canister from it for 25 bucks needing some work. Recently I saw a ad for a nice looking upright that turned out to be a Stark/Royal 5700/9700. Wrote asking how much and was told free with extra bags and belts, works great, wife wanted a lighter wood floor freindly version. I picked it up a hour or so later. It needed some cleaning but does run and clean my carpet great and is sturdy and less parts to wear out. I bet with a saved search and some time you could find almost any vacuum made you might like and free or cheap does happen as some folks have something else and just want it gone.
