I will start my post by apologizing for not having a Model number or better photos. The machines I need help with are both situated such that I can't easily get to the back of the units to get the additional details. If I need to get the additional information I will pull them both out but what I do next with them really depends on the answer to this basic question?

Are the touch-pads on the Touchmatic RR compatible with the Touchmatic II touch pad. Here is my issue: I have a Touchmatic RR that is in kind of rough cosmetic shape but the controls all function correctly. I have a Touchmatic II RR that is in near perfect cosmetic condition but the touch pad has died on it. Can I put the Touchmatic touch-pad on the Touchmatic II oven? If so, how difficult is it to do? If not, anyone looking for a really nice Touchmatic II RR that's deader than a door-nail? Free of charge of course just pay to have it shipped.

I say start by pulling the covers and looking at the plug ends and what not. If it all looks the same it should work I'm not vary familiar with the inners of these models.

Anthony,

Thank you Anthony...

I guess I don't have much to loose do I if it's already not working. I am so afraid with these older machines not knowing if there is some kind of seal or something that if broken will leak radiation all over the place :).

This is an area I have never gone but I supposed "nothing ventured nothing gained"!! I just don't want to screw something up and end up with two really nice machines and neither working.

Once you open it up you will see that in some places there will be some foil tape don't tamper with that tape! I think it will inter change fine.

Hi Ralph,

Is the Touchmatic II completely dead, or is the issue limited to the panel? I actually repair these as a sideline and might be able to assist.

If you want to swap the Touchmatic panel onto the 2, it should work okay. Be sure to pull the plug first, then remove the 4 allen head screws on the panel.

I guess we're really talking about an RR-9TA vs an RR-10 from what I can tell in the pics. The "II" has an extra relay that controls the door solenoid independently such that you can enter a future start time. Early 9T's have this second relay populated but I believe by the 9TA iteration, they just used a jumper wire in the molex connector to accomplish the same thing. On the machine side, they should be compatible. -C

Thank you Cory

...I was able to get the Touchmatic II into a spot where I could plug it in and see what happens. I couldn't remember if it was totally dead or not. The control panel seems to be dead but the light does come on when I open the door or press the light button. I hope that's a good sign. I plan to take the panel off today and see what I can do.

One other question if you don't mind. If I am successful in this and trash the Touchmatic are there any parts I should try to salvage for myself or others before I pitch it. I have noticed over the past year or so it seems to be loosing some of it's power. It takes longer and longer to do what used to take seconds.

Thanks for much for the information. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ralph

SUCCESSS!!!

OMG!! It's working!! I can't believe how simple it was to switch them. I've been so worried you needed some special tools or a hazmat suit or something to work on these. This Touchmatic II has been sitting for well over 2 years. I have wanted to fix it for a very long time because the old one seemed to be loosing steam. When hubby was cleaning the garage not long ago he said it's gotta get fixed or it goes.

So if anyone wants a part off of the Touchmatic let me know soon as he will likely be taking it away in the next few days. Once again folks, thanks for your advice and support.

I love this place!!

Congrats! on the repair~

Glad for you that you were able to do this yourself~ I had one of the first Sears programable touch panel microwaves. just touching the symbols registered on the screen it has a rack to do multi food cooking and could be programed to have food ready for certain time of day. It would automatically calculate the start time! often used the probe too! Interesting to see how this appliance has evolved over the last 40 years!
