Is Vanish Crytal White Powder all its cracked up to be?

Dont worry Persil is not letting me down just yet but I am worried a shirt my Mum bought me for christmas is going to suffer.

Without starting the arguement I am not convinced the 40*c washing of whites produces the standards I get at 95*c (ive seen the standard of whites my Mum gets at 40* with Powders liquids and tablets and they are nowhere near) but the shirt she got me although its 100%white cotton there is some design on it that means im very worried about washing it at such a high temeperature and indeed on a cotton cycle anyway.

The care label says 30*c Wool so I ve been soaking it for a couple of hours in the washer with Persil NB and some warm water in the wool cycle, but it seems to be losing its brightness.

Does anyone have any suggestions or indeed experience with the Vanish CW at keeping whites white at low temperatures.

If they do how do you use it? Ive seen the instructions and the soak part of it is a big faff for me so is it as good added to my detergent in the main wash?

Much Appreciated guys!

Nick

Nick, I think the key to keeping this garment white is to wash it seperately, or with other whites which aren't too dirty. The water will be nice and clean, and you should get good results. If it's cotton, I think that a wool wash is an excess of caution and you could probably carefully disregard this instruction (quoting Cheryl Mendelson). I would probably choose `delicates' and pretreat any collar stains or other stains with a drop of colours liquid, or even Fairy(rinsed out thoroughly LOL).

I hate to say it, but I feel that Ariel bio powder or a tab may be the way forwards for this application. I feel that the OBA in Ariel functions much better at lower temperatures than the ones with Persil, infact I suspect Ariel's OBAs work better in moderate temperatures than higher ones. Hot `Ariel' washes don't look as white as hot Persil washes to my eye. But Ariel at 40 degrees will give you a lovely whiteness. Personally, I would also reccomend sticking to blue or white fabric softeners in this type of situation too.

Just my feeling!

Sorry, forgot to say - have never used the Vanish CW, it looks really expensive and I don't really think it should be necessary, but I'm ignorant on it I do confess. It's normal Vanish with OBA too, right? Probably a larger than usual dose of ultraviolet. Useful if it doens't contain lots of high foaming surfactants, probaby a pain in the **** if does (oversuding)...may as well just use more detergent type scenario.

Thanks Nick,

Your information is as depandeble as ever.
And ive gone with your suggestion.
Ok this is something you (or indeed myself) thought id never see on the detergent shelf in my household after the abysmal performance of the Ariel Tabs I tried a few months ago......... and my dislike for their products.

Ok I put Persil on a pedastal because IMHO it works better than Ariel BUT I did find that the colour liquitabs cleaned just as effectively if not a tad more than Persil Liquigel.

However both dont compare to Persil CC Powder.

It may be the batch of Ariel bio tabs I got was dud or they really dont compare to powder, but either way i tried them at 40/50*c washes and at 95*c and they didnt really do much.

So heres to the powder and its success.

Just need a hot date to wear the shirt so I can get it dirty LOL.
Failing that Il just have Puttanesca Pasta for tea PML.

Nick

just to prove i did take the plunge ........ and im bored.

I love subtlety in advertising, lol!

This is the flipside of those who would deny science, and their agenda.

How annoying to be preached at, in such an obvious matter, on a detergent box!

P&G should save this money and pump it back into product development. Most people's minds will never be changed regarding wash temperature in their particular conditions and laundry needs, and it's ridiculous to think such a campaign will...
