If you had to buy a vintage washer with no atc water temp with a warm rinse what brand and model

Hello to all aw member if you had to buy a vintage washer today with no atc water temp and true warm rinse what brand and model would it be?

me the following would be

1-inglis

2-1976 side lide kenmore washer with rotoswirl agitator or dual action agitator with liquid fabric softner dispenser mounted on top the agitator

3-side lid eaton viking washer

4-" lid hotpoint or moffat washer

5- center dial maytag

Ect

Speed Queen first.

Prior to 1980

Due to the famous Arc-Cuate transmission, proven in millions of installations, and fluid drive along with the overflow rinse.

Second would be Whirlpool because once upon a time they really did make our world a little easier.

Third would be the Frigidaire prior to the sell out to WCI. Love the fap fap fap fap fap fap action in the wash.

Kenmore Series 90

Maytag a notch or 2 up from my current 710 so I could get a second rinse automatically. That filter is fantastic for pet hair!

Any Unimatic or Apex just because they're so much fun to watch

In order of preference...

GE Filter Flo
Maytag (any with long stroke agitation)
Belt Drive Whirlpool

Any agitator with the above. All of them are built like tanks and I would have no problem using any of them as aa daily driver.

3. Mid-90s Frigidaire top-load (dual-action agi./tub indexer)
4. GE FilterFlo, mainly because of nostagia and memories of my Papaw. Loved that clunk-bang of the brake at the end of a spin.

(01). Lady Kenmore 3-Speed Keyboard with either Roto-Flex or Vari-Flex Agitator (1966-67 (Roto-Flex) or 1969-73 (Vari-Flex with Flip Down Cover)).

(02). Speed Queen with Solid Tub, Side Opening Lid That Lays Flat, Heavy Duty Solenoids (love that heavy clump sound when it starts agitating after fill), Arc-chuate Transmission and Fluid Drive (1960's).

(03). Frigidaire Roller-Matic with Jet-Action Agitator that goes Up and Down (instead of Side to Side like my other Washers), and Rapidry Spin (1965-69).

(04). Maytag 806 Center-Dial with Push-Buttons on either side of the Panel (I want an early model 806 with Tub Light -- Late 1960's/Early 1970's).

(05). Sears Kenmore Model 60/600 2-Speed/3-Cycle Washer with Black Bakelite Straight Vane Agitator and Waterfall Lint Filter (1966-67.... I "ACTUALLY" used one of these before.... machine was tough as nails, and THAT agitator DID NOT PLAY... you KNEW your clothes came out clean EVERY TIME.... this one will ACTUALLY be the Daily Driver out of all of these..... nicely featured for an affordable machine too).

I've already got some of the true 'warm rinse' classics and if I had to do it all again, I'd still look for these vintage washers:

 

- 1951 Kenmore (or Whirlpool) Automatic

- 1953 Westinghouse Laundromat

- 1957 Hotpoint Automatic

 

If I had the chance, I'd love to get an early Frigidaire (a Unimatic, naturally).   

 

And something that will soon be joining the collection - an early 50s GE Automatic!

IF

I had to choose ONE AND ONLY ONE WASHER, it would be a late 70's Ex-Large capacity GE Filter-Flo with 2 speeds and the straight vane agitator. They turn over everything, best filtering, great rinses, and seem to just keep running and running. Other machines look better and are more fun and sometimes more highly optioned, but the FF's are great washers.

But who could live with just one washer?

Dryer-----Any huge drum Whirlpool or Kenmore from the late 60's onward----2 temps, I don't need moisture sensing and am happy with the timer-versus-heat controls, I like the bell/buzzer and wrinkle-gaurd. Again, they are big enough for everything and just keep on going. And the filter lasts through the entire load and doesn't catch the dryer sheets like a GE.

But who could live with just one dryer?

And now..... as a follow-up of my earlier post.

Of ALL the Washers which I would buy if I had to buy a Vintage Washer before, and I have listed five Washers in my post.

But now, if I had to have a Dryer to go with any of these Washers, then all I need is ONE Dryer. That's right. ONE.

The Dryer I would get will not match ANY of my Washers at all, and I am fine with that.

And the ONLY Dryer I would get would be THIS MODEL Dryer pictured below.

Why THIS particular Dryer??

Well, I have the option to dry automatically, or dry manually.

This one has a Solid-State Sensor, Two Temperatures, Soft Heat (I Think), Wrinkle Guard, The Cool Slide Cover To Conceal The Controls, Full-Width Door, and Drum Light On The Inside Of The Drum. It Has The Stationary Bulkhead In The Rear Of The Drum, And Lastly, A Larger Drum Than The Pre-1966 Kenmores. About The ONLY Feature This Dryer Would Lack Would Be A Lighted Console Compared To A Lady Kenmore Model, But It Would Be Quite A Bit Cheaper Than A Lady Kenmore Too, Considering The Features I Would Be Getting. Other Than That, I'm Getting Everything Else. This Dryer Was #3 (or #4) In The Line Back In 1968.

In short, this would be everything my Childhood Dryer was supposed to be (which would be a 1975 Sears Kenmore "All-American" Dryer), but wasn't.

Again, Great Dryer (To Me Anyway).

But as "Akronman" has said, "Could you live with JUST one Dryer?"

Well Akronman..... if it's THIS beauty from 1968, then MY answer would be an resounding YES.

Oh!!!! Can I have mine in White??

Most of....because in the times agitator machines didn't have the atc and those silly electronic trinkets and all of those idiotic stuff, were also the times when these machines were made to work as they should as as i expect a machine would, and yes...last as well.
I am not an user of warm rinse, though real hot wash and ability to chose myself the right temp is what I care for the most, nothing can do it better than me....
I have a thing for kenmores and the whirlpool, i also like whatever whirlpoolish from other countries, malleys or brazilian brastemp, centrales, philips you name it, with belt drive and old wig-wags mechanism.
I like the filter-flos or derived such as canadian beaumark etc, speed queen also, any maytag with fluid agitation, frigidaire with jet action, I like philco Ford, the kelvinators..the blackstone, norge angel wing earlier and later and the derived ones such as Montgomery wards, I like any older Easy machine american or mexican...ecc I am sure I forgot something but I'd see myself using most of these older good washers of when they were made to work and be happy with.
I love them all, and each one of them has something beautiful to be loved...so i'd get what pass by...but if it's a 60s Lady Kenmore set with whatever agitator except a roto flex agitator I'd be more thankful...LOL[this post was last edited: 12/28/2014-13:32]
