I'll admit I originally got the book because I thought it was going to be funny. Gay Marine porn star? What a hoot!

Turns out the title was accurate. Of course, the title didn't even scratch the surface. I guess it would have been unwieldy to add "drug-addicted suicidal part-time hooker/stripper circuit-party boy and lawyer."

Whoops. Forgot "fundamentalist Christian."

Yeah, it's like that.

It was an absolutely harrowing read, made worse because it was all true. I got to the point where I dreaded turning the page for fear of what would happen next.

In fact, I couldn't even finish it. In typical veg fashion, I didn't see a happy ending on the horizon, so I didn't go there.

I have never been so affected by a book before. I actually couldn't even eat for a week.
