Jeff Just Called

The Maytags and KitchenAid KDS17 are on the way to Tarantula Arms. I am charging up the batteries and will take some pictures when they arrive in St. Charles.

Oops

I guess I gave some of the surprise away. Oh well, Jeff posted about getting these things. Can't wait to see them. We will also attempt to get the turquoise Fridigares to the basement as well.

Hmmm what do we have here???

something too shy to show its face? No hiding behind the seat allowed!

Here they are

All safe in Ida's home for wayward vintage appliances. The turquoise Fridigaires will keep them company for now along with the turquoise KDS15 - that's my baby. This is where I will build a second kitchen if Jeff doesn't take them.

guess we will have to wait a while for a Maytag Makeover. IIRC, the gold-tone surrounding the buttons on the control panels is DELICATE. when i was i kid, i think i sprayed ours with something kinda harmless, like windex. all the gold wiped off! and about storage, on ebay ive seen vinyl appliance covers advertised and i think i saw some appliances in mr nelsons basement (fridge?) covered in plastic wrap. seems like a bad idea. seems like vinyl will trap the tiniest amount of moisture, moisture possibly found deep inside of fridge or washer. this trapped moisture, unable to evaporate, might bring on premature rust. any comments from the appliance experts on this? David

WHEW!!

I am glad they are safe and sound at Ida's.
Here's a couple of last pics of washer and dryer interiors. While needing cleaning and polishing on the outsides, both of these machines are very clean inside.
they came complete with owners manuals and such too!
I think we drive over 200 miles today. It cost me $55 to fill the van up before I turned it in.

KA DW

Greg,
The DW was still warm from having run its last cycle in its former home yesterday morning! The family who sold it was remodeling, and the lady said she'd purchased a new Maytag DW but was now having 2nd thoughts. I promised her DW would have a good home and she asked if she could come visit! Fred gave me an owners manual for it, and after reading that I'm looking forward to using that in my kitchen.

The Maytags are beautiful, I can't wait to get busy cleaning them up and learning the "works" I read thru all the manuals last night, and the print date of them is march of 1979, so this set is probably from sometime right around there or shortly after. I told Fred I would be cleaning them this coming weekend dressed in my tuxedo!

MY, MY!!!

I would say you have found the best of the best!!! Now you've got to get them out of that orphanage and USE them!!! Mark

Jeff everything looks great! So I guess you going to have to make more room to add vintage washers, dryers and dishwashers to your vac collection! YAY.

Robert: yes the house requirements just got larger...I'll take my current W/D with me when I move too, so I'll need space for two sets, and maybe a third washer(gonna have a 1-18 someday too)

Louis: yes these bring back good memories. I can't wait to hear the bell on the dryer. My mom used the permanant press cycle alot, and the dryer would ring until you paid some attention ot it. Many times mom would set it and then be outside at the end of the cycle and that damn thing would ring and ring and ring!

Congratulations Jeff on the KitchenAid as well as the GORGEOUS 608 set!!! I know how you've been wanting these...can't wait to see them installed and in full working glory! They both look like they're in great shape, and are they almond?

Time to make room for more machines!! You won't stop at just one...;-)
