I Understand

The way he is being badmouthed no wonder he came back as an alias. Its a strange thing, when someone posts that they are bi-polar or whatever, the folks just melt with kindness and here is someone who has been judged and found guilty of perhaps a slight mental problem, everyone is out to hang him.Truly this cant be. Bobby

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who was royally creeped out by that image.

I hope Cub eventually learns the value of honesty, or at least the value of the OFF button on his computer. The internet has created countless millions of young sociopaths, devoid of any friends or anything real in their lives. It's tragic.

Helped People

Dont you think it has also helped many people who were afraid to face folks in person, knowing that they are not alone.Perhaps seeking and finding help that they did not know existed. Thanks Bobby

Actually I think it's that the Internet has created a place for these sociopaths and they live their lives completely on the internet via internet addiction rather than the internet "creating these people"

As an operator of another website, I can vouch that there is a lot of weird and strange behavior out there on the 'net. It seems to attract them.

Sure, but it's much easier to make virtual friends than real ones, and also much easier to lie to virtual friends than real ones.

In a lot of cases virtual friends are all these kids have, and lying becomes second-nature to them.

very good point, Bobby

The tendency to pile on and really attack people is very much an aspect of life in all forums, tho' it is less so around here than in many, thanks to Robert.

Much of it has to do with the two-dimensional, cut and paste aspect of our online lives.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that in our extremely polarized 'reality-based' world of today, many of us simply would never, ever have any social contact with people who don't fit into our very highly defined contexts of who's acceptable and who's not.

This is threatening to all groups. Every study over the last decades shows that Americans are living in ever more homogeneously stratified areas - the Internet and those family gatherings! are, for many of us, literally the only place we encounter someone who doesn't share our deeply held views on core issues.

Every single person posting here who met Chad has said he was a real person. Fighting some inner demons, I believe one person who hasn't posted said, but warm. I'm not arguing against Robert's position here.

I support Robert 100% in his decisions on this matter.

Chad unfortunately managed to upset a dear friend of mine here deeply. I don't see him piling on, and if anybody was hurt by this, it was he. I don't see Robert piling on, and he surely was hurt the worst of all.

We will continue to have our cliques, the splits left by the Austin incident will never completely heal-over. Hard as it is tho' (well, not for me, we all know I hold no strong opinions) this is also a chance to spend time with people we would otherwise never interact with. That's a good thing.

A great gift from Robert.

Sad Though

This is the only site I have ever talked to people on actually.Im usually very busy and chat rooms and things like that would do nothing for me.Sort of like people watching x-rated videos.Id rather be there than to watch it,so 2D,rather than 3D.One thing we have to remember thank goodness not everyone is the same. Bobby

Hmmmm.
I was the one who he was buying the vacuum for. He sent me pictures of it in his trunk and that was the last I heard of him. He didn't want any money in advance to ship it, which I thought was wierd, now I'm glad I didn't send him any cash. He sent me 8 emails and called me twice, he seems nice enuff. Wonder if the vacuum will ever arrive? I emailed him tonight to see what was up, no response.

I have to say that the Avatar that travlincub321 was using just creeped me out also. This Chad person I never knew. I don't wish to really know the details about what this person did in the past, but RULES ARE RULES. I'm just glad that Robert has not shut the site down. Robert, I'm glad that you are watching out for us, especially when it comes to things that have happened in the past. On a more personal note, I always try to be honest and sincere when posting. Those of you who have seen my machines and projects know that I don't lie. Yes, there are times when I do get a little carried away. If I do offend anyone with my comments and or pictures, please let me know and I will be more careful. I try to stay with mostly washing machines because that is why I joined this site. My personal goal for this site is to focus mostly on commercial FL machines.

I kind of followed this guys posts but since I'm newer I was unaware of anything. I do wish this person the best and pray they will seek out help and healing. I will not however, miss that ugly avatar, some days the sight of it disgusted me...

You're right Allen -

I don't see attacking Chad as exactly supporting Robert.

By the by, if something like an avatar is so disturbing one can not stand it, just tell ABP to block it.

Hey, presto! It's gone.

>we no longer have to look at that downright spooky avatar he was using. <

>Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who was royally creeped out by that image.<

No doubt! I tried to avoid reading his post's, because of that.

Fine job, Detective Robert! Keep up the good work.

I guess it's a good bet that just about everyone was creeped out by Cub's avatar.

Me too, except I am curious about it:

Who is it?

Why is she so manic happy?

What are those huge earrings made from?

Does she shatter mirrors and camera lenses?

Can't Answer...

...The other questions, but those "earrings" were spools of ribbon, the kind used for gift-wrapping. I suspect the photo was some sort of picture taken at a party, and that Chad found it on the Web.

It did look a bit like Betty Garrett ("Hildy" in On the Town) gone barking mad, didn't it?

NSFW The first appearence of

This, um, picture our university's image matching program can find was July 14, 2003, in a Brazilian Blog. Not Safe For Work, to put it mildly, but goodness, some of the other pictures there are pretty good, and some are right out of the same, let's call it, genre.
It's the last pic on the first page, gah...still recovering from the cartoon of the ape or monkey or whatever at the top...
Much higher definition, if you really need an emetic or so...

Sandy,

Thanks soooo much. Now I can clean the coffee off my screen...

Wasn't it C.S. Lewis who said nothing is worse than something that is nearly, but not quite or once was but is no longer human?

I thought it was just me who found that avatar disconcerting until others chimed in.

Speaking of which, I was pleasantly surprised that no-one had used my avatar yet. Took a while to go through everybody's profile to be sure of it.

Here's the Tipoff:

If you'll look at this detail from the photo, the lady's crow's feet are very visible outside the frame of the glasses, but not within it. And those are some industrial-strength crow's feet.

Party glasses, trust me.
