In the market for a new tumble dryer....

I have a Hotpoint ultima CTD80 with the blue lcd (from the same period as your old VTD20.) It used to dry the clothes properly on cupboard dry before but over the past year or so it leaves them damp which means we have to put it on again on a timed cycle which is annoying. We just tend to use timed drying. Don't get me wrong, we still like the tumble dryer as it gives good results. I would consider another Hotpoint if this one packed up.

The condensor is cleaned regularly, the fluff filter is cleaned after every cycle and the water is emptied after every cycle.

I like the newer Hotpoint dryers including yours as they have more programs to suit your needs.

i would suggest the zanussi that AquaCycle posted, they are rather good dryers and the build quality is good they are more flexible given the fact that they have three way venting

pedro, i strongly recommend the Beko DCU7230S model to match your LG washing machine i own Beko DCU9330W the build quality is decent for the price and the performance. i brought this dryer 2yrs ago and its been working flawless ever since, check it out, i wouldn't recommend a hotpoint. go for something like zanussi beko,samsung, lg, bosch, miele.

sorry Dyson 2 drums - I miss-read your comments.

I know what you mean now, one thing I regularly noticed is the old Hotpoint sensors were all over the place, my VTD20 would regularly over dry, and regularly under dry. However what I was saying was, the new dryers with the electronics such as the TVF770, and I presume TVAL, TVPF ranges all dry to perfection with the improved sensors which actually work. I know that the sensors will wear out with age, they all do, even Miele's, so can't really fault it on just that!
The Zanussi in Aquacycle's link looks OK, and has flexibility with the venting, and it has some drying programmes, but on experience with Zanussi, Cupboard dry leaves items wet, not fully dry like the Hotpoint, Plus it isn't available in Black/Silver.

Are you like me, you want visibility inside the dryer, glass door??
I notice, you have chosen the Glass door version of the new range TVAL73C6G - There is also a TVAL73CG which is the same, just with a plastic door, and may be slightly cheaper. Is Glass door a must, if it is, then only Hotpoint sell these in the colours you want!

well as far as hotpoint go, i think the new range are pretty decent, which is strange coming from me. i think a matching stainless steel hotpoint set would look amazing, last you a while and would be easy enough to fix.

We're all human, we all make mistakes. I agree with what you've said, the newer dryers have much better sensors from what i've heard from consumers and read in reviews which is a thumbs up.

The glass in the door would be a bonus, it also needs to be a vented dryer. I've used a condenser before and even a Miele condenser left me less than impressed when it comes to drying times.
