Hi there,

I hope this is the right place to ask this but I have a feeling that it is. We have moved into hospital accommodation (doctors who live on site) and we have an old Indesit washing machine in the accommodation. The washing machine functions (albeit leaks a little) but it does not have a proper control dial. We're currently trying to figure out the orientation but trial and error can take quite some time with this kind of thing! Is anyone able to help with the following?

Where in relation to the flat side of the control pin would the "arrow" point?

The machine seems to stop without draining, but can drain if you set it to another setting, is this normal? I.e. does it normally do a wash cycle that you then restart as a drain cycle?

Many thanks,

Washerman

I'm assuming that the programmes you selected were ones with built in 'rinse hold' such as 'delicates'?

If so, then yes, the machine is supposed to stop full of cold water on the final rinse (to prevent creasing of synthetic fabrics).

To get a full programme wash-rinse-spin, you would have to select one of the 'cottons' programmes:
2 White Cotton @ 90°C, (white cotton and linen items)
3 Fast Coloureds @ 60°C, (colour-fast dyed fabrics, little bleeding of the dyes such as coloured towels),
4 Non-Fast Coloureds @ 40°C (non-colour-fast items which bleed/transfer dyes readily, such as coloured t-shirts).

Regarding the orientation of the shaft... I suppose you could try rotating the dial to find '13: Drain, No Spin'. Basically, only the drain pump should activate for a few minutes, and then stop by itself. There shouldn't be any water filling or spinning, but I don't know if there might be a gentle tumble as it empties.

as noted above the stop before spin is normal on delicates, if there was a knob it would be aligned probably around the line between 13and14.

The best I can offer (and actually it is a good best) is to point out your posting to a member who lives is Cardiff who, if he does not have an indesit knob, most likely will have a substitute, and I am sure will be glad to help out subject to lock down restrictions
