I just purchased off eBay a Sears Silvertone Clock Radio from 1965 (Model 5742). My folks had this when I was growing up so I'm familiar with the unit, but would like to know if anybody as the instruction manual for it. The power cord hanger tag and the box came with the radio, and both were in pristine condition which took me back to the days when this packaging was standard for Sears, but alas, no actual instructions.

BTW, does anybody know the vendor code for this radio? Its (superscript 57) space 42, so I'm assuiming 57 is the manufacturer.

Thanks

I can't remember who, but someone I knew in the '60s had that same radio, and I think it was the actual manufacturer's make rather than a Sears badge.

I kind of want to say Panasonic.  I know some Panasonics did use a Telechron movement for their clocks, and from the looks of it, the one pictured above could very well be a Telechron, but it might have the later and smaller "S" type rotor instead of the "H" type that dates back to the '40s.

I just don't know if Sears was inclined to sell re-badged Japanese electronics in 1965.  Back then, the words "Made in Japan" were still largely synonymous with "cheap junk."

57

Is the division or dept number,42 is the stock number, look on the radio itself and get the model no, I have a Sears chart that tells the manufacturers,...110 or 116 = Whirlpool, 103 = Roper, the prefix indicates who made it.

That's so great and what fantastic condition....my Mom had one for the longest time, I think until the late 80's

If you watch the movie " The Help" there is one on the shelf in Minnie's kitchen.
