The last gas stove that I had in a home was an ‘87 builders grade GE. It was unvented, all the previous gas stoves that I’d had in a dwelling were old and vented.
I never recall any problems with the old vented gas stoves. However, within the first month of living with that unvented ‘87 GE I noticed that the walls and white formica countertops were covered with a film from the burning gas that I needed to wash off weekly. We lived with in that home until ‘94 when we moved into our current home with an electric stove. Since moving to this home I’ve never again had to clean up any film on the countertops or walls.
In my opinion electric stoves are much cleaner. I’d never want another one of these new, unvented gas stoves. I have asthma and don’t need anything else in my home to aggravate it. Plus, that POS gas GE couldn’t have the flame set to a low enough flame setting to finish steaming rice, it would go out, and then there would be gas escaping. It was a choice between scorching the rice or breathing escaping gas. NO Bueno!
