The freezer is a little smaller than my old Hotpoint Fridge

But if I just go back to buying boxes of frozen veggies it should be just fine LOL

and this is my biorthday gift to me from St Louis

I made toasted  English Muffins in this the other day and they came out just the way I like them...and much better than I could ever get them in a regular toaster

Pat, have you tried Modern Parts for the door gasket?  I got gaskets from them for both doors on my '57 GE Combo this past summer.  They weren't cheap, but they're the right ones.

I used Meguiar's car cleaner/wax on my Combo and it really shined it up nicely.  You might try that and possibly get the finish to an acceptable appearance so the repaint project could wait.

That sure is a nice fridge, a great score for $50, and so conveniently located.  You were meant to have it.  The pink-on-pink is great!

Pat....I think I have the matching freezer to that!

That's a fantastic fridge and how cool is it, that it was just down the street.....and only 50 bucks! What a score! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!

I think my GE Under Counter Food Freezer is from about the same time as your Edna. It even has the same badges.

I wonder if that appliance place would have a door gasket for my freezer. It cleaned up real nice with 3M Adheasive remover and Simple Green, but it's still almost 60 year old.

Todd, it may be worth contacting Larry at Modern Parts.  Just give him the model number of your freezer.

I don't have his number handy, but can post it here if you don't already have it.

Todd

did you ever get the phone # for Modern Parts in Parma? If not let me know I just ordered a new gasket from them today for Edna. What I really like is this gasket is not new old stock they have a manufacturer who custom makes them for some vintage fridges...this is costing me apporximately $80 and I think it is well worth it. If you want the # let me know PAT COFFEY

Ralph hooked me up!

I did get, yesterday while chatting about my freezer. I'm going to call them and see if I can get one for the freezer.

Thanks for checking in!

Oooooo....

I get deja vu every time I see those rotating shelves. I swear we had one just like it when I was as kid, although I also remember getting screamed at if I tried to push that button in the middle or rotate a shelf.

"YOU BROKE IT!" a nasty older sibling would snarl.

LOL.

actually Alan

Ge replaced the revolving shelves with swing out shelves by 1959. What color was the fridge at the thrift sotre? PAT COFFEY

My grandmother had this model I think (56) because it had the teal/green color inside and she had extra lights behind her crispers and that foot pedal door opener, Mom & Dad had the (55) Combination with the latching door because I don't think those magnets were out yet, they did have spinning shelves but when you opened the door the General Electric named was lit through the backside which was a cool thing too!

Actually Drewz ....

The Alnico magnetic doors appeared as early as 1951 and then they seemed to disappear for a couple of years (I wonder if there was some kind of quality problem that caused this) and then came back to stay in 1956...PAT COFFEY

I hate to say, I don't remember if it was white or coppe

or two tone! I remember it was definitely a GE, and perhaps it had the swing out shelves, I remember they at least did come out of the interior. I wish I could say more, I'm also pretty sure it hinged from the right too. Doesn't give many clues at all!

how cool is that

well how cool is that..look what i see sittin on top of that pretty ge frigde. congrats really nice fridge and glad you enjoy the toaster too. hugs from st louis

General Electric

I love old General Electric appliances, they are truly a testimony of how much better things were built then, than they are today. Good luck with your new General Electric "frigidaire" LOL.
Mike
Nana had a GE just like that and called it a "frigidaire"
