What I didn't know about iPods........

I thought they came with a wall wart charger.

My computer DOES not have a USB port. I can't go to the library and charge it there, it is forbidden. My computer also does not have a working modem.

I use a Webtv for internet, and it does not download software. My real computer is practically Flintstonian.

I'm going to send it back this week to my sister in Minneapolis, and she's going to send a comparable value Borders card.

It is a silver Nano.

In other news... a shipment to my niece has gone missing. UPS came through with all my other shipments, but not this one.

It can only improve!

Lawrence, I didn't realize you had a sister in Minneapolis. I'm sorry to hear this isn't going to work out for you, since it would be such a great thing for your situation. But, I imagine the investment to bring yourself up to date to the point of being able to use it would be quite prohibitive.

I started out with a WebTV, and save for a few downfalls like those you mention I actually really liked it. I liked sitting with the portable keyboard in my chair and watching tv in the little window while surfing. I just was wondering to myself the other day if they were still up and running.

Flintstonian. You created a marvelous word, there, Lawrence. A Yabba-Dabba-Doo-ism, as it were.

Too bad about the iPod, but you'll be able to get a lot of great reading material and CDs from Borders, so it's not a bad trade.

I've been trying to convince UPS to go with this catchy new slogan: "UPS--THE REAL SANTA®" but they're apparantly too concerned with upsetting the delicate balance of culture and belief to use it. Plus, I want half a million dollars for it. And not a penny less.

Having said that, I hope they find your niece's gift. Maybe one of the Brown Elves put it on the wrong truck and it just has to get sorted out.

Merry Christmas, Lawrence!

Lawrence (Maytag Bear):

I have an extra dsl modem if you want it... Lemme know asap.. I tried to email you, but it keeps bouncing back... Picture below..

Workarounds.....

There is an Apple wall-wart charger, and my sister is sending one, along with a case, and the software on disc.

Did I mention it is a 2 Gb Silver Nano?

Since I spend a lot of time waiting for buses and in doctors' offices, it would be good to have a wall wart charger, as well as the USB.

I asked my friends in Massachusetts who refurbished my Pentium II, and they DID put in a USB, just not on the front. They're sending an USB extension cord.

Chad....thank you, but I can't use a cable modem. Thanks anyway!

Lawrence, I'm glad you're able to work around things. I got some nice gift cards for Christmas so I am going to get one too. Best Buy was an exercise in futility, but the Apple Store seems to charge the same price, so I think I'll go there.

That's great! But, your computer runs Windows XP, or 2000, right? The wall charger is great when you're traveling, and you can leave it connected every night to keep the battery full.

Happy iPod-ing!

My real computer,

as opposed to the Webtv, runs Win 98, which I have been told will support the iPod software. I hope.

The disc with the software isn't here yet. I hope I can install the software properly.

I haven't been able to find out if Flanders and Swann, Hinge and Bracket, Beatrice Lillie, and Ruth Draper are downloadable.

I hope so.

I think iTunes is only Windows XP/2000 compatable, but I've never tried installing it on 98. Who knows, it might work!
