It's a good weekend for a new (to us) Frigidaire Range!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Update!

The clock was not working on this range, well, it was but barely. The second hand turned, but the hour and minute hands did not turn. The minute timer also worked. We took it out and fiddled around with it, and surmised that there was a problem somewhere within the gearing. On Phil's recommendation, and remembering that I had been to their website at some point in the past - I looked into GEneral TIME RepairS.

I started out by emailing them, inquiring about a repair, and I received a call back the next day. They needed info from the timer itself to verify whether or not the timer was a GE mechanism. I got the info they needed, called back and they verified that they would be able to fix it. If it's a timer that was built by GE; they are able to rebuild it!  Generally, however, if they have a duplicate in stock, they simply swap your broken one with a rebuilt one. This wasn't the case for us, so we had to send it in.

They're located about 4 hours away from Minneapolis in Carroll, Iowa (North-West of Des Moines). Robert and I were planning a quick weekend at Greg's, so I was able to coordinate us dropping the timer off on Friday afternoon, on our way to Omaha. They repaired it, and had it ready to go for us on Sunday on our way back home. It was really convenient, and we were able to see the facility where all of this goes down.

Not a huge place, but it was full of timers, testing equipment, presses to presumably rivet the timers back together, and bins full of gears and all the moving parts one would ever need in order to fix a GE stove timer. It was really cool to see in person. We were also shown the larger warehouse, also full of these same parts. The owner worked for GE in the Applicance Control/Timer division for 27 years, then when GE dropped that part of the business due to everything going electronic, he bought that part of the business from GE, and all of the parts inventory/machinery that accompanied the division. He said that they stay pretty busy, and I would guess it based on the amount of timers that were scattered around the place.  Both he and the woman I spoke with on the phone were incredibly nice to deal with.

For a modest $95 - we now have a completely rebuilt Clock/Timer mechanism for our range. We woke up this morning to Sunbeam CoffeeMaster coffee that was turned on at 6:30am by our automatically timed outlet on the range.

Nice to know it worked. I wish I could find a spare one to have it rebuilt for my 1959 Custom Imperial range as the paint on the dial was worn on mine (I repainted the gray part but it's a bit too dark) and I had to use gears from other used timers to make it work!

Thanks for the update.  When my budget allows I plan on sending mine off.  Worked up until a couple of years ago.  Miss the timer for when I'm baking downstairs.

I've got my Coffeemaster plugged into an X10 appliance module,  Always wake to fresh coffee via my computer control.....

Total success!

Three mornings in a row now, we've awoken to the smell of coffee, automatically brewing, thanks to the freshly repaired Frigidaire Clock/CookMaster and the 'Auto' outlet. Monday was Sunbeam CoffeeMaster, yesterday and today were Chemex via Norelco. The best part of waking up....

Fred - so glad that your beautiful range is now fully operational and providing you guys with dependable silent-service for your morning coffee preparation!

The Norelco over Chemex set up is genius!! I've got the Chemex part, I'll have to hunt for an old Norelco. Is that a Dial-A-Brew??

Enjoy!!

Yes, it's a Dial-A-Brew! I can't take credit though, Jon Charles turned both me and Greg on to this whole Chemex world, including the Norelco. The Dial A Brew works well, only up to about 8 cups though (we have a 10-cup Chemex). When I fill it to do a full 10, the Norelco pumps a bit too much water too fast for the filter and coffee to handle, and it backs up/overflows a bit. I just have to keep an eye on it when doing a full pot, unplugging it once or twice if it gets too close to going over.

Yes Mark!! Get it fixed!! You will be so glad you did! They're fabulous to work with!

Greg has said before - even if broken, a clock is still correct twice a day. :-)

You should take some more pictures of your range, I'm interested to see it full-on!

Yes, Cory!! Operational clocks and CookMasters for everyone!!!! What year is yours; 60? 61? You should post a full-on picture, too! Yay Frigidaires!

Mark- your range is lovely thanks for the pictures! I wanna see that speed-heat operate sometime!

.but WHAT is that windowed device next to it?

Hey Brian, click the link below the for the answer :-D ...

I love the Lady Kenmore with the window - that's just so ****ing cool!

I love the new stove much more than the Liberator, even though I side with your

feelings of missing some features. The lines of the stove and overall look is

perfect. Notice the horizontal lines in front are nearly following the other lines

of your dishwasher and refrigerator;line variation adds more interest.

I can see why PhilR likes this stove.

Congrats and great choice! You look better in jeans vs. yellow dresses, though.

It's amazing how different the 1958 and 59 models varied. Here's an RI-70-56 PK '58 that doesn't compare. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/app/5017957076.html

Phil, the pink one in the ad you posted is a 1956 model, the last year before the "Sheer Look".

The first range pictured in this thread (which you posteed!) is a 1958.

Blame Kenny in the ad

LOL, PhilR - I quoted seller's CL ad text (Kenny), but saw and posted the 1956 model tag/number in the photos.

It has been a long time since I stayed up late, and my mind is out of practice. :-)

Fred and Robert's retired '58 and new '59 are so different..were those BOTH "Sheer Look" models? "Sheer" describes the '59 to me, more than the '58. What describes sheer-linearity? If so,then the '56 looks more to the '59 in lines than the '58(I think).

Anyways - love the new stove, the windowed dishwasher and the concept of using all the colors one likes in a kitchen.

Thanks, PhilR.

Thanks, Robert

That link is incredible! I cannot believe that a mere mortal hobbyist can do work like that! We can't enev seem to find so-called professionals who can do ordinary jobs well.
