Mowed again today sort of

Just the high spots. Spent about 15 minutes total mowing. Fired right up, no issues, no oil consumption at all.

I stayed off the rest of the yard as I put out two 36lb bags of Milorganite on it.

I have 25 lbs of fescue for the fall overseed. I may relent and secure some KY Bluegrass to mix in. That can be had in bulk at Rural King, buy as much or as little as you like.

I have not had time to un-EPA my gas can so I paid 10 bucks for a lousy yellow plastic funnel that fits over the filler neck. No more spills but it irks me I have almost $40 in a darn gas can. At least it is USA made.

Got a mini grease gun for the deck spindles and front axle. Next I have to get an oil drain pan; I'll change the oil this fall. At the rate I'm going, I barely have 1 hour total on this machine. Also need to get a 90 grease zerk for the center spindle.

I located a source for USA made battery chargers; still debating on whether or not to buy one. I suppose if the battery conks out, I can jump start it from the Corolla (that battery is only 2 years old).

Other than that, pretty slow around here yard wise. We really need some rain. Started out kind of wet and my local chap was here weekly mowing for me back then. I need weed n feed for the fall, rent a dethatcher someplace, and on and on and on.

Renting for 15 years I forgot how much stuff one needs for a nice yard. I also forgot how frustrating it is getting grass seed to germinate!

I had a power outage in my place Sat morning. One of the 120V legs went out.Power company came and tested-verified one side was out.Next came their backhoe adn tools-neat battery powered shears and crimper-will try to get some like theirs for work.Would be great for redoing filament cables. After the repaired and spliced the line they covered it,graded it and seeded the place. Will hope for the best. They did do a great job.The water company is replacing their water mains in my neighborhood-will expect the front yard to be dug up.Their backhoes will visit. Its been dig up by them before anyway-3 breaks in front of my place.I priced new ride mowers and tractors at Lowes the other day.Another man was with me doing the same thing-for the payments on any of their tractors-would be cheaper to hire it out.In the meantime use my cordless electric mowers. Those have been paid for.

Storms in my area,too-and the backhoes from the water company are tilling my yard even more.so LESS grass to mow-just MUD!And this can get into the house-even when I am careful. The pipefitting and laying should be done at the end of the summer.Hope this cures the frequent water pipe breaks we had before. The operation is interesting to watch and talk to the workers as to what they are doing. They used a really cool pipe fusion machine to join peices of pipe together.Next week they are going to use a HUGE horizontal drill to have the pipes go under three creeks in my area that go to the lake. This should be good!At least with the drill-less disturbance to the yard-there is going to be a hole in my yard where one of the pipes will join the pipleline that goes around the circle I live on.This pipe will go under the road, too.

Sever tstorm warning................

North of my area!

Yeeeesh, a couple of days ago, it all went south. Today, it goes north. Had to water the budding fescue so it can come to the rescue.

Never imagined I'd be here praying for rain, but here I am doing just that.

Wet. Very, very wet. We had yet another in what seems to be an unending series of severe thunderstorms on Saturday night. Over five inches of rain in three hours. Water came into the garage and laundry room (through a casement window). Spent the entire night throwing towels down on the floor, heaving them into the washer for a spinout, then back onto the floor. Then I'd go to the garage and use the push broom to sweep water toward the floor drain.

I've had just about enough of mother nature this summer. Wish I could send some of our never-ending rain to those of you who need it!

Other than that, all is well in my corner of the great prairie.

well.......

It rained for about 10 minutes. Go outside now, walk on grass, you cannot tell it rained.

:(

Note to Frig

Please send rain this way. Right now it is very nice weather-wise but according to all the local weather guys, it is supposed to be a scorcher by the end of the week.
Thus the non union Goodman HVAC will get a workout.
Second, did you get your window flooding issue resolved? That has to suck having water rush in like that.

There's not much to resolve about the flooding. It rained so hard for so long that the gutters were overpowered. Water poured over them on the north side of the house. The water rose enough along the wall that it entered the (covered) window well. It's only happened once before when we had 9" of rain at one time (a total of 14" in a thirty-six hour period) about 6 or 7 years ago.

Water entered the garage from the south wall, again because the gutters were overpowered by the long-lived torrential rain. Fortunately there is a floor drain in both the garage and laundry room. The goal in the laundry room was to not let the water get through to the carpeted living room/family room.

We're in the target of the big heat dome today and tomorrow. The heat and humidity have caused a line of rain/thunderstorms to pop up unexpectedly this morning, so more rain; something we really, really don't need.

At any rate, my non union Toro lawn mower is going to be busy the next couple of weeks.

I'll do what I can to send some rain your way, Ben. Sounds like things are getting pretty crunchy there.

I'm going to mow today because later this week it is supposed to be hot hot hot hot.

I have found 2 baby bunnies right out back in fact their eyes are not even open yet so I will avoid that area and leave them be.

I have 2 spots where the fescue is slowly coming up. I try to water each evening but the soil is so durned dry the next morning you cannot tell I watered.

Glad your flooding issues are resolved for now Frig!

Frigilux, This is all i could think of when you said you have too much rain

Rose:
I just got a special delivery letter from St. Olaf! Uh-oh, it's from the Department of Water and Coffee.

Dorothy:
Coffee?

Rose:
No thanks, it makes me jumpy.

Dorothy:
Rose, what does the letter say?

Rose:
You read it, Dorothy. I need both hands to cover my ears in case it's bad news.

Dorothy:
[reading] "Dear St. Olafian, I am afraid there's bad news."

Rose:
[fingers in her ears] What?

Dorothy:
[reading] "There's a drought in St. Olaf which threatens the crops."

Rose:
Oh, no! I'd better send water.

Dorothy:
[reading] "Please do not send water. We have found that envelopes leak. Until the rains come, we ask that all citizens be celibate, except for Ulf the Umbrella King; he has suffered enough."

Note to Frig #2

Please send some of (a lot of?) your rain to So Cal, we desperately need it here too!

Thanks!!!
