Were they still tiny babies living in the hole/nest on your lawn when you saw them, Ben? If they were already out and onto the lawn then mom and company may have already moved on. If you don't see mom spending a fair amount of time sitting/guarding on your lawn, then they're probably gone. Sometimes the babies would chill in the shrubbery in front of the house for a few days, but they don't really stay near where they were born. At least not around here. Two neighbors now have dogs who live outside in the summer and there are always a couple of feral cats roaming around so mom gets the family off this block pretty quickly.

Oh, and be sure to fill in the rabbit hole so you don't step into it and sprain your ankle when mowing he said, speaking from experience.🕳

Getting pounded pretty good now with storms

Temp dropped 16 degrees, booming like a war outside and rain coming down in buckets.

Nice rain yesterday morn (technically not yet enough).  Brown grass already perked-up.  Mowed this afternoon.  Must keep ahead of making so much hay that I have to hire-out again to have it raked and disposed.

I am holding off to-because of the heat and the water pipe work.What area are the backhoes going to "till" next?Will try to do the lawn next week-hopefully the temps will come down.I am so tempted to call a lawn service to do it if it stays hot.A guy on a ZTR mower can do my lawn in minutes compared to HOURS I take with the push mower.

Finally got quite a bit of rain

this AM and it has been cloudy and humid. Grass shot up and is ready for cutting!

Cannot wait to use the non union Husqvarna rider tomorrow!

Used my Greenwork cordless electric to do the back yard and side yesterday AM before the heat set in.Much less to do becuase of the pipeline work.

Some rain + milorganite helped

Just got done mowing. Yard is look as good as it can be this year. More work to be done but in 12 months, it certainly has improved

Very nice lawn there-mine is horrible-the sandy soil here adn swampy conditions make a nice lawn impossible.Your sharpened mower blades do a great job-looks like a golf green!The sand here dulls and wears blades fast.I just grind the nicks out a make a basic edge.The Hitachi hand grinder does just fine.bought it from ReTool when they used to be here.I have a small collection of tools I bought from them-a Metabo grinder and jigsaw.Both work well.

Removed the blades and touched up the edge

5/8 wrench plus some grunting got them off. The outer ones anyway. I had to slide under the front axle to get to the middle blade. Put the edge back on the blades, remounted them with a thin film of lithium grease on the mandrel side to prevent it hanging up in the future. Put some grease in the front axle bushings as well.

Knocked off some caked up grass from under the deck. Oh how I wish I had some hickory trees with a yard full of nuts to chop up. Did that a lot in Indiana and the underside of the deck was clean for sure.

In my area its pine cones-want some?Come get 'em!They will keep your deck clean,but will put nicks in blades.Going to file -or grind the blades in my mowers.the sand and pine cones take their toll.

Well ended up mowing Sat anyway

Due to fact 80 per cent chance of precip on Sunday, which was spot on. After the rain, I put another bag of Milorganite on the "triangle" part of the yard to give it a boost. We're supposed to have moderate chances of rain each day this week.

Nothing like mowing when it is hot and humid. Love the smell of fresh cut grass, exhaust, and the sound of whirling blades slicing away at the mix of rye, fescue, bluegrass, sorrel, broadleaf, wild mint, and crabgrass.

I DON'T like the heat-but do like the sound of the spinning blades-but no exhaust-just the quiet electric motors spinning the blades.Its just too hot here now-waiting for it to cool down some.

Well learned something

I will have to cut off part of the plastic chute because when the grass is even slightly damp, it clogs up. Badly I might add.

I've determined that the chute directs too much of the grass flow downward instead of more horizontally and as such, it balls up and restricts the dispersal of grass.

I'll use the neighbor hacksaw and remove about 3-4 inches of the deflector to improve airflow outward.

has rcovered, not the front. Must be different grass. Maybe the original owner planted shade seed in the front. Faces east, no shade.

Started mowing my yard yesterday with Greenwork and B&D cordless electric mowers.I shouldn't have bothered on one part I did-the waterworks backhoe came just after I finished area and dug it up to connect a neighbors house water pipe from across the street.They use an air powered "mole" to bore a hole for the pipe.You can stand on the street and tell where the mole is and also get a vibrating foot massage!The areas dug up are going to be graded and replanted when the pipe work is complete.Another few weeks yet.

Got a new hacksaw

cut off 4 inches of the chute. Will mow this weekend and see how it works
