Nick lives in Granadaland, and I live in Anglialand! LOL Jon (lavamat_jon) lives in Yorkshireland. nickuk lives in Anglialand or Londonland. LOL
Well, I can get London channels as well because we officially in a dual region area.
For those of you who do not understand what we are talking about (“Irritating Brits!” you say), please see the link. Granada and Anglia are the names for what used to be – and legally still are – independent regional television stations that make up Channel 3 (again, a legal term), or the ITV Network, which is referred to on air in most regions as “ITV1” (Independent Television).
There are regional news programmes at certain times of the day, along with the odd regional programme on certain interests. The regions are further split into subregions, which allows for even more local news, as well as closely focused advertising.
One large company, called (confusingly) ITV plc (public limited company – that is, with publicly traded shares) owns 11 of the 15 franchises. The other four are owned by three separate companies – SMG (Scottish Media Group; for the two Scottish regions), UTV (for Northern Ireland) and Channel TV (for the Channel Islands; known on-air as “ITV Channel Television”). ITV plc was formed from the merger of Granada (which runs services where Nick lives) and Carlton (which technically still broadcasts during the week in my area).
Across the 11 ITV plc regions, on-screen presentation is consistent – that is, there is no distinction in terms of announcers now because all of that is done from London. ITV1 Wales does get the occasional “Wales” bit added below the main ITV1 logo at times, however. Without being cynical, there is an obsession amongst some in the UK with ‘rebranding’ many companies, products and services to the point of absurdity sometimes, as if ‘old’ names are to be banished because are… too ‘old’. Our own post office, still owned by the UK Government as a plc, renamed itself “Consignia” a few years ago in a huge money-burning exercise. That did not last long, and it reverted to “Royal Mail”.
There is also a separate station called GMTV (Good Morning Television), which is the breakfast television station broadcasting between the hours of 6am and 9.25am. During those hours, the ITV Network is actually off the air. GMTV is 75% owned by ITV plc, with the rest being owned by Walt Disney. Many in the UK perceive GMTV to be simply a programme on ITV1 – it isn’t because it is a station in its own right, selling its own advertising and making its own programmes. (Don’t argue with me, Nick! ;-))
Anyway, where was I? ;-) This is a forum for washers! LOL
Lovely pictures, Nick!

Many of the pictures remind me of my town – Bishop’s Stortford.
