Well, I've Never Been a Prince Fan

I've heard his music and seen him perform (my sister worked for the local rock promoter and decorated his dressing room so it was free and the best part was having Grace Slick sitting behind us) even though I don't care for him as a performer or musician, so since I'm so out of the Prince loop, I threw Adam into the same category since he has a unique style and some glizty get-ups. Apologies to any Prince fans who feel nobody else compares. Much as I recognize Adam's talent, I wouldn't likely pay to see him perform either.

There have been a few articles showing up in recent days, one very right-on one out of the Baltimore Sun and another by Ruben Navarette Jr. of the San Diego Tribune. All discussions make the very sensible assertion that Danny's fans all migrated over to Kris. If you liked Danny (and I liked him waaaaay better than Kris) you probably weren't going to be voting for Adam in the finals, should things have ended up like they were supposed to with Danny and Adam being up there, so those people weren't going to vote for Adam. With Kris up there instead, they still weren't going to vote for Adam.

People from Canada were frustrated because they weren't allowed to vote. They could have easily swayed things in Adam's favor. It's called "American" Idol, after all, so why can't Canadian's vote? Please don't go splitting hairs and saying everyone from Alaska to Chile should then be included. It's an English language program.

It has also been mentioned that Adam is better off coming in second. If he had won, he'd be under the direction of AI producers, staff and the record company they use, and wouldn't be able to make very many of his own decisions. And there is no question that he has a huge future in the entertainment industry regardless of how the vote went. That absolutely cannot be said for Kris.

The guy from Baltimore (name escapes me) said he was through with Idol at this point. I think I feel the same way. Not because I'm so upset with the vote and those behind it, but because the show is flawed. There has to be some sort of influence from the judges in the outcome. They all saw it right away, that Adam was a truly talented performer and he consistently confirmed it week after week, yet the judges have no say in the ultimate outcome. I won't be surprised if Simon is quoted as saying this decision will prove to be harmful for the show. The finale was, I believe, the lowest rated since the show has been on.

Bottom line, middle American adolescent females will never get behind a Frank N. Furter Jr. as their heart-throb.

I watched the first season or two, now I glance at it and it's hard not to hear about it from just about every media source. I really think it's become a train wreck of a show.

This Pat Booneish character Kris is the BEST this country has to offer???? After seeing 10s of thousands of singers this is it? The show never had much cred, and now what little it did have is gone. There should be one vote per person/phone number and the judges decision should be equal or greater than the teenie bopper girls. But it will never happen because they like saying after almost xx million votes so and so won.

Why are you people watching this crap? Is it the train wreck syndrome I mentioned earlier? You can not watch? So far I can...

Hope he is that Fortunate!

I hope Kris IS as fortunate, all politics aside, as Pat Boone. To have a career spand as long as his is a great accomplishment.

I'm with you Matt. The show is flawed and is basically a waste of 59 minutes every Wednesday. The follow-up shows to announce the results needn't be longer than a half hour. I'm through with AI and won't even watch the hilarious try-outs next season. I think this season's vote and outcome will hasten the show's demise.

I'm not referring to Pat Boone's career, and his success of sorts, I'm referring to his Bland, safe image. All the things he made popular in his time were remakes of much more edgy content. He stripped them of their soul and character and made them "safe" for the supposedly innocent kids of the time.

I wasn't and am not invested in any of them, it's just this kid's singing has no soul or personality - the epitome of bland elevator music.

Kris's style may not have soul or personality in some peoples opinion, but apparently over half the voters disagree. Sometimes "Flash" is great, but subtlety can be just as great when you stop to really listen to the meaning.

Hmm...

Frankly, the only thing Kris has going for him is that cute face and those well packed jeans. Oh, that and the fact that Adam looks like my nightmare image of why I don't like the birds of paradise representing me on Christopher Street Day.

Ick.

Yeah, yeah

And who cares what his face looks like when he's gonna be facing the other way...
But, dog-gone it, it sure is hard to get all that mascara out of the pillow cases.

Seriously, the over-fem stuff turns me off. If I were attracted to women, Adam would still be too fem for me.

Ick.

Oh for sure Adam is a turn-off with the eyeliner etc. He's not a man's man at all, so wouldn't even make it on to my "to do" list. But he's way more talented and much more of a showman than Kris could ever dream of being.

This morning's paper reports that Queen is considering him for their lead singer. No joke. After the Queen number during the finale show, I noticed the lead guitarist going over to Adam, and even though you couldn't hear the guy, it was obvious that he was congratulating Adam on a great performance and was truly impressed with his abilities. Being up there with Queen and belting out that song fit Adam like an old shoe. On the flip side, Kris was clearly out of his element and comfort zone.

While the show itself is fcuked up, coming in 2nd is probably the best thing that could have happened for Adam. He's free to do whatever he wants, and not what a bunch of formulaic producers who pander to adolescent females tell him to do.

2nd isn't so great

They are still under contract to Idol for at least a year. Remember Justin from season 1? He could have gone much further, but he was held back so he didn't cast a shadow over Kelly. These contracts may have changed because the Rubin/Clay season. Clay soared much higher than Rubin did. Rubin played at our Riverfest in '07 and couldn't even finish his session. In my book not a true performer.

I didn't watch this year but now and then, because I think the "winner" is the one that Simon wants to promote and the others get tossed.
