Well, I've Never Been a Prince Fan
I've heard his music and seen him perform (my sister worked for the local rock promoter and decorated his dressing room so it was free and the best part was having Grace Slick sitting behind us) even though I don't care for him as a performer or musician, so since I'm so out of the Prince loop, I threw Adam into the same category since he has a unique style and some glizty get-ups. Apologies to any Prince fans who feel nobody else compares. Much as I recognize Adam's talent, I wouldn't likely pay to see him perform either.
There have been a few articles showing up in recent days, one very right-on one out of the Baltimore Sun and another by Ruben Navarette Jr. of the San Diego Tribune. All discussions make the very sensible assertion that Danny's fans all migrated over to Kris. If you liked Danny (and I liked him waaaaay better than Kris) you probably weren't going to be voting for Adam in the finals, should things have ended up like they were supposed to with Danny and Adam being up there, so those people weren't going to vote for Adam. With Kris up there instead, they still weren't going to vote for Adam.
People from Canada were frustrated because they weren't allowed to vote. They could have easily swayed things in Adam's favor. It's called "American" Idol, after all, so why can't Canadian's vote? Please don't go splitting hairs and saying everyone from Alaska to Chile should then be included. It's an English language program.
It has also been mentioned that Adam is better off coming in second. If he had won, he'd be under the direction of AI producers, staff and the record company they use, and wouldn't be able to make very many of his own decisions. And there is no question that he has a huge future in the entertainment industry regardless of how the vote went. That absolutely cannot be said for Kris.
The guy from Baltimore (name escapes me) said he was through with Idol at this point. I think I feel the same way. Not because I'm so upset with the vote and those behind it, but because the show is flawed. There has to be some sort of influence from the judges in the outcome. They all saw it right away, that Adam was a truly talented performer and he consistently confirmed it week after week, yet the judges have no say in the ultimate outcome. I won't be surprised if Simon is quoted as saying this decision will prove to be harmful for the show. The finale was, I believe, the lowest rated since the show has been on.
Bottom line, middle American adolescent females will never get behind a Frank N. Furter Jr. as their heart-throb.
