a new home for an HA806 washer from Sept of 1977

This is a washer that I found and we then went thru it a while back. There is a thread on this forum where I posted pictures of the go thru. The damper pads are pretty much the same as the one I just gave to Dan. Pads are loose but the damper is intact. This is a very good washer that got a new injector, belts and cleaning. Do the pads and she should be good to go for a large number of years...

Is that the same "scritch" the old Westy slantfron

Several manufacturers used those style escapements. You can hear it best during the 4:38 and 8:56 spin portions of my Frigidaire vid

 
BTW

Looks like you replaced the fabric softener dispenser with a chrome-topped one.

I also notice a slow down in the spin speed during the spray rinse and then a speed up. Mine does the same thing.

then your shot of the swirlaway drain would surly win, and the shot of the wide open green tag, white tub in the night is absolutely stunning. Thank you for the luncheon treats.

Dashboard Painting

Which brings to mind a question. Has anyone successfully repainted the console of a center dial tag? If so, how did you accomplish it? How were the results compared to a factory finish?

I have an A-207 that could use a console refresh, but I am afraid of making it look worse than it does today.

BTW, if anyone knows where I can locate the mate to my washer, I'd appreciate it.

Painting:

I've done it on an A108 (gold console panel). It took masking tape, an X-acto knife, and gold spray paint that I got at the auto parts store. Auto touch-up paint came in different shades of gold, and I was able to find a good match. You also need the clearcoat, because today's auto paint is dull until you clearcoat it. If you have a machine with the aqua panel, I'm sure you can also find a match for that with auto touch-up. The brand is Dupli-Color; I got it at Pep Boys.

Basically, I masked off all chrome trim, buttons, dial, and the white upper section of the panel. The little chrome surrounds for the buttons are the toughest - you have to mask, then cut away excess tape with the X-acto knife. Then you spray a colour coat, let dry, shoot a second coat, then clearcoat.

Looked very decent when I was through, certainly much, much better than before. The previous owner of the machines had been a Spray 'n Wash addict, and there was almost no paint left on the dryer's panel. The washer was a little better, but still in need of help.

I did this with the panel in place, and when I do it on my new 'Tags (big surprise coming soon!), I will be doing it with the panel removed; I think I'll get a better, more "factory" job that way.

If you could document the procedure with pictures, that would be great. My panel is the aqua blue. Sounds like it might be a good project for the weekend.

My white section could use a little help too, but I don't know where I would find another vintage Maytag decal.

Yeah, that would be a good idea - my contribution to the board.

For a Maytag decal, scan a Maytag logo, adjust the size, clean up in something like PhotoShop or GIMP, then print out. Cut to size, use spray adhesive on the back, press in place. Last step would be cutting a little piece of transparent Contact paper - just a little larger than the "decal" - and pressing that into place over the paper, to protect it. Not perfect, but much better than nothing.

With your skill you could retro-fit it onto your Tag. Maybe the former owner was a washoholic too, and couldn't stand to have all the sweet buttons hidden by the lid, and took it off like I did. Let me know if you want the lid. Still can't get over all the whorls, swirls, tides and eddies, and octopus sucker holes in your whirl-away drain shot. mmm mmm mmm
 
GREAT JOB GUYS!

I just love my Maytag 806. You guys did a wonderful job on restoring her.

How do you know if the pads need to be replaced? When my 806 is agitating it makes a grumbling type noise, and I have been wondering what is causing it.

Oh, I am sooo jealous. I love 806's. Very nice job with all of your fix-ups. Keep the pics and vids coming....it's all I have since I cannot seem to find any 806's around my neck of the woods for me to snatch up. :)

You can see them peeking out from under the damper in post# 388873. A few more loads, and there would have been some bumpin and grindin goin on, lol.

Well, here's half of the pair. The 808 dryer is temporarily taking the place of the Kenmore until I get some new seals for it. I'm diggin the 808 so much I may be VERY lazy getting around to that repair :) The HDE806 dryer still needs a complete tear down which will happen....soon...hopefully. Hey, it's almost the crazy holiday season!

I spent a couple hours making some tedious adjustment to the washer. Got the inner tub perfectly centered and it now balances beautifully with an empty tub during the spin cycle. Broke out the digital calipers and adjusted the drive lug as it was set a little too tight. Adjusted the pump belt as well.

On the first load, I had a seeping hose leak at the beach nipple to tub hose and one at the pump drain hose. No biggie. The centering springs need to be tightened down a little tighter, with a 1/2 extra turn or so on the right spring to perfectly center the tub after a spin. Right now, I got her soaking some of those down right dirty clothes I was wearing while bringing her back to 100% operation.

It's about freaking time...

Nice to have a lit up laundry room, isn't it? For someone who is SO Maytag like you are, it took you forever to kick out that 'mangy' Kenmore... (Ducks and runs like Hell while watching for Gordon, too!!!)
