After three weeks of scheduling, no ones fault, and 8 DAYS OF F**KERY ALL OF WHICH WAS ATT's FAULT I now have OOMa phone service. I think I like it. It's seems much clearer/cleaner than my land line was. It should be cheaper. And it works with my cordless phones. I will update as things change.

I hope you have better luck with OOMA than I have had with Clear. In fact, I was thinking about switching to OOMA for voice communications.

Clear Internet service is fine. It's reliable and fast. Occasionally during the middle of the night it'll shut down for an hour or two but I have only seen this a few times in the past year.

The voice part is terrible. It works fine except during the hours of 6-9am and 3-7pm. Then you get lots of cut outs, dropped calls, static, etc. It makes using the phone almost unbearable. Of course when you call Clear or visit one of their stores they always tell you that you are the only one experiencing this problem. Nobody else has reported it. When you do call their tech support line you ALWAYS have to give them the make/model of your modem, the serial numbers, the date the product was installed, your account number, your full address, etc. You are on the phone with them for at least 15 minutes before you are even allowed to say you have a problem! It's aggravating.

But I get both Clear Internet & voice for $55.00 per month, and all I am paying on top of that is sales tax. No other kinds of taxes, surcharges, etc. If I used AT&T for my phone and internet the fee would be $118.00 per month. So I am happy about that.

How much did you have to lay out to get your OOMA up & running?

WhirlCool,
I got my OOMA on a WOOT deal for $149. I opted for the OOMA premier service for a year $99.00 (?) and had my number ported for $50.00. I dropped my ATT land line but kept my ATT DSL, which is the only choice where I live.
I've got my multi-handset cordless phone hooked up and all ext's seem very clear, caller ID is working and even the phone based dirctory seems OK.
I do want to get a OOMA phone to take advantage of the "extra" line that comes with the premier package.
I'm using all the same wiring including my twisted pair cable supply to the OOMA.
So when the smoke clears I should have a net gain of +$70/monthly plus a second line and more calling features.
The big question is how long it will work!

I'm a VOIP.MS guy. LOVE the service. I bought a Netgear Voip box for $49 from Newegg and ported my number. $1.49/m charge for ported number $.99 for one of theirs. Many servers to choose from around the country and the world, cheap calls - $25 lasts me 4 months. Lot better than paying $44/m with no caller ID.

No addition charge to call anywhere in the country or Canada and I believe Mexico too. Europe is cheap too. If you make a lot of calls to other countries it's well worth looking into.

OH, BTW I'm using SKYPE on the Android phone, works great as long as there is a WiFi connection. $2.99/m unlimited calls. Great not having to use my minutes when I have a WiFi connection. I think there is a Google Voice workaround on the 3G network, but to use it you have to root your phone, not quite ready to do that yet...[this post was last edited: 4/28/2011-17:47]

Hydra,

Step into the future! It seems like yesterday I thought a pank princess phone was IT!!. Today I actually know what VoIP means. And they say old dogs can't learn. (guess old 'dog-boys' can!)

Did just figure out that the cordless OOMa Telo handset won't work with the "HUB" unit that I have. You need the newer Telos (?). So I guess I won't be able to use the "second line" feature on my old cordless without getting the "scout" unit. But so far very pleased.
