There has always been an area in parens next to one's user name that (is designed to) show the city, city/state, country or whatever your locale happens to be.

Over recent times, I've noticed that they are either becoming more generic, they change everytime somebody goes on a trip, or they contain some other words or sayings that make varying degrees (if any) sense.

Now mind, this inquiry is not meant to be judgmental, but what's up with this, people?

Well, for me,

my current "location designation" is pure whimsy.

I love the book "Shrek," and the resulting movies, and am looking forward to "Shrek The Third" this summer.

At my other board (for writers), I change my "tagline" fairly regularly. Right now, I am "D____ M_______, two side dishes included." Other taglines have been "Daily Prophet Food Writer," or D____ 'Aaron Altman" M___________" (from my favourite character in "Broacast News.")

If anyone wants to know where I really can be found, and would want to meet me in person, all they would have to do is ask in an email. Just remove the part that is in all capitol letters.

Nothing too mysterious or remotely evil.

Fine then! LOL

Off to get my hair done! So for the next few hours (see above)

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.... ;-)

Hi Scott,

Here's my two cents on the subject. Since the forum is public and can be viewed by anyone, there is always the possibility of potential stalker situations and the like, especially now, much more than before it seems. I live in a small town of about 3800 people, and while I used to have the town listed, I recently changed my location to a more generic one. If I did in fact live in a big city such as Houston, Chicago, or LA, I would feel more comfortable listing it.

A small portion of members (such as you and I) do try to attend as well as host "analog" functions of the AW.org community. We have all met each other in person and are pretty familiar with each other. However, the majority of the 719 registered users are people that do not participate in the "analog" activities; therefore we have not met them and do not know about them. Definitely more than meets the eye, which is why I choose to provide a generic location.

I registered in March 2004, and compared to some users that have registered in the past year or so, it seems like I've been around here longer than most, which in reality I haven't, LOL!

Wow, 719! I hadn't gone all the way to the bottom to look in a long time! I still remember when we got to 100!

Well Scott, since you asked…
Dadoes changed his location to just TX and his name disappeared (So I guess I won’t mention it)
Westytoploader changed his to Central Texas and his last name disappeared
Retromom has always used Texas Y’all (I like that & think it’s neat), her name disappeared and she updated her collection (Cool)
Brettsomers switched to Texas
Maytagmom went to the Twilight Zone & her name changed or was she crowned Princess?
Then again, Stopmeister72, Sudsman and Westtexman’s profiles haven’t changed
Appnut’s profile hasn’t changed in years and hopefully his name won’t ever disappear because if it did, what would we call a “Bob Load”? Love Ya Bob!

Anyway, we Texans stick together & with all of those Texans changing their profiles I felt like I had to keep up with the Jones. So I changed my location to “The Capital of Texas,” deleted my last name (Like anyone couldn’t figure it out by looking at my e-mail), and moved some item from “Your Current Appliance Collection” to “What is the history of appliances you have owned” since there are a few items that I don’t have anymore.

FYI
Native Texan- one born in Texas
Texan- one living in Texas
Bob Load- the absolute maximum amount of items one can load in a machine (Dishes in a dishwasher/clothes or items in a washing machine) and still achieve outstanding results (Clean dishes/clean clothes). A trademark of Appnut (Bob).
The Capital of Texas is Austin
DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS!

As I've mentioned before, there is a small core of users who cause problems and want to be kowtowed to, and they respond by "kook-i-fying" anyone who dares to stand up to them.

Hence the manufactured paranoia.

There are those who profit off fear, and elitism.

On the other hand, there's indeed something to be frightened of, online, nowadays, so....

This is all very positive. Posters SHOULD address these peculiarities and get them out in the open. It's a lot more mature than grouping together in little cliques, and getting it wrong more often than not....
