I've never seen a stove anything like this..

Well, I'm not sure if the appliance gods are smiling or laughing today. This afternoon it was the GE fridge, and a few minutes ago I got a call from one of my uncles about a stove.

Now, when he said he had an old stove someone gave him, that I might want, I was picturing a basic boring stove i wouldn't be interested in. Not so.

The stove is basic 30 inch electric range, as BOL as it gets, but it has a narrow 20 inch oven, a small storage drawer undetneath, and a side storage door. I've only seen this sort of arrangement on large 40 inch stoves before.

Has anyone seen one of these before?

The name brand on it is enterprise, I'm not familiar with this brand. It's filthy, (aren't they always), and the knobs are those ugly cheap one size fits all replacement knobs, but otherwise it's in good condition. It even has the original broiler pan with it, and my uncle plugged it in to make sure it worked.

He says if I want it I can have it, I'm debating since it would mean a smaller oven, no built in timer, etc. What do you guys think?

My mother's aunt had an Enterprise gas range.

You have a good range. This is a weird range that was cheap to begin with and has obviously been ridden hard and put away wet. There are all kinds of porcelain chips in it. Pass, buddy!

You not only can't save 'em all, some things belong in the crusher.

And all of that grease will help lubricate the crusher. The surface units are low wattage like are seen on cheap ranges. Thank your uncle for his thoughtfulness, but decline his offer.

In Canada, we do have Enterprise ranges, but they don't look like that. In fact, they do look quite similar to your Monarch!

if you don't take it, at least get him to get a picture of the rating/brand plate...curious...it's evidently for a really cramped area which needs cabinets more than a big oven (apartment/efficiency/...). It doesn't look like it comes from the Canada manufacturer upthread...curious.

One more advisory to pass on this one.  The range you already have is better.  Almost any range is better.

Let that stove go! There's no reason for taking it. The stove that you currently have is better according to the others on here. You would not benefit from this. That stove is a mess! The oven although not as old as I'm stating but it looks like it hasn't been cleaned since 1914!

Lol, I was pretty sure it wasn't coming here when I saw it, due to the small oven more than anything. When I use an oven I USE an oven.

I wanted to post it here, partly to see if anyone else had seen something so strange, and partly to make sure everyone agreed that it was best sent to the crusher.

I still say though, it's definitely interesting looking.

Re Enterprise..

That is a Chattanooga Tennessee special...not very much for them to brag on! the one made in Canada is absolutely NO relation, it was very much kin to a Monarch, which was a heavily built quality product.

I've seen similar units in Chattanooga apartments built in the '60s and '70s. Apartment builders bought them by the bucketful. They might have been something cranked out by Magic Chef since it was just up the road in Cleveland.

In a way it reminds me of the BOL Kenmore that was in this house when we bought it. It didn't have the storage section, just a single oven. And half the decals indicating burner settings were cleaned off of it. The oven section worked well, but that was about it. It eventually was killed by a power surge.

The script burner labels make me think it could be a Canadian Enterprise product but the Enterprise logo is not what I would expect, I have a Canadian Enterprise range almost identical to Phil r's photo, but all the Enterprises I know have the same logo as Phil's and all also have thick heavy cast iron oven door hinges,they were made in Sackville New Brunswick. Enterprise did and maybe still does make cast iron heater stoves. The consensus opinion most probably correct but an interesting design from a time when design choices were the norm.
