It's a Hotpoint.
Almost a solid tub - the hole pattern is very cool. I wonder if it was better or worse at extraction than other baskets from GE...

It looks very Hotpoint/Kenmoreish. JCPenny used to have a whole bunch of appliances under their own name: Television and Stereo Units, Refrigerators, etc. You usually only found them at the largest stores. I wonder why they dropped them? In fact a lot of department stores that used to sell appliances dropped those lines during the early to mid 80's.
In Houston Foley's used to carry major appliances, but around 1984 or so they dropped that area of retail

i had a JCpenny dryer for a couple years. was a ok dryer (think the element was going bad) ended up leaving it for the new owners of the house. my friend still has a JC Penny TV for his Wii
Well, I thought you were going to tantalize us with a Penncrest solid-tub!
That agitator could sure stir up the sudz! Makes me want to run a load with Viva just to see the sudz-cake!

I was going to comment on the tub holes too. I wonder if that was some attempt at saving water. Seeing as how once the machine was running, with the filter ring adding water to the tub, the water probably did not run out the few holes in the bottom as fast as it was being pumped in.
This way instead of only requiring 125 gallons of water for this water hog (GE) you may only require 120. hmm. At least they were making the effort?
it was the late 70s. I'm sure GE wouldn't want to do anything that would hamper them making more products that use electricity like pumps and the like. We all live for corporations, you know.

These were water-hogs, but most of the automatics of this time were. It would have used relatively the same amount of water as any other GE-Hotpoint of the same time. The water level would equalize between the inner and outer tubs as it was filling. The solid tub GE had a sediment hole under the agitator and one small one on the side of the tub combined with the constant overflow over the top of the tub that fed the filter-flo to keep the washtub full. If you stop the washer to soak for a while the water will eventually run out of the two small holes in the tub and equalize the levels in both.

I just love the tub
I think what a tub like this would do is throw the clothes very high just like a solid tub would, and more effective spray rinse as the water has to travel up through the clothes to those top holes for exit.

I was beginning to wonder if those really existed. For the last two months I've been trying to get a picture of what the GE manufactured Penney's washer looked like. Very GE/Hotpoint-ish for sure. Leaning on the Hotpoint side of the house though. Thanks for sharing that. Made my day.

The lids usualy gave away he identity of the GE made washers.It's too bad that agitator takes up half the available tub capacity.
