that was actually the year that appliance manufacturesa stop

I think you are right Pat the shading was phased out from 1976-1977, and boy did Hotpoint have some ugly shading. It is amazing how good WPs and Sears appliances looked with the shading but others just didn't quite make the grade.

Are those GE-made like the Penncrest washers/dryers? I don't know much about 70s dishwashers.

I really wonder why JC Penny appliances never caught on as much as Wards or Sears?
Could it just be if people wanted something "made by Hotpoint or General Electric they were more likely to buy "The Real Thing"????

I bought the JC Penney washing machine in 1978 mostly because I could figure out that it was really a GE underneath. Didn't know about Hotpoint then, would not have made a difference. The tell-tale feature was the slotted rubber "japanese lantern" coupling between the pump and the motor.
