I was reading through my 'Better Homes and Gardens 1964 Improvement Ideas' last night and ran across an advertisement for a Jenn-Air Imperial Oven. I don't believe I've ever studied this before - very unusual setup. Has anyone ever actually seen this combination before? They refer to the cooktop as an 'Air Conditioned Range', so I'm assuming it's a downdraft unit, and that hinged baffle somehow allows the downdraft to draw air from and cool the overhead ovens. I scanned the full-page ad, but the file is too large to include here. Kewl.

I Have!

Never seen that oven, but I have seen that cooktop, as I remember it was pretty nice, It was in my hometown in mr Withers house, His Son in law ran Shields Furniture and they sold Jenn Aire, along with Maytag Bendix and Kelvinator!

The cook top looks like the one perc-o-prince (Rich and Chuck) have  or maybe had  in their kitchen.

Tom- You're absolutely correct. There's not a lot of headroom for the cooktop to begin with, then you have the downdraft vent in the back that angled toward the front, cutting the size of the pot as well.

But, it's cool. Would I prefer a 'regular' stove/oven? Yeah. We'll remodel at least that area soon, but just when is unknown. We'll have to find the right range or cooktop and oven set first.

In the meantime, Lawrence, here it is.

There's a slide-out under the larger oven that flips down then is pressed to the vent for venting smoke and/or odors when broiling. This made for a challenge when installing it because they have to line up reasonably well. Since we didn't hav the instructions that would have no doubt included measurements, we depended on a couple of patient friends (thanks again Bobby and Greg!) to assist!

Nope, not a winner, unfortunately. It has it all in looks (it DOES look great!) and not in functionality. Even a 12" skillet just fits. Try putting a pot big enough for canning quart jars on it!

And, the oven isn't very deep- 12". My pizza stone doesn't fit and I can't use the large size of pyrex rectangular baking dish in the smaller oven.

Yep- we'll be ripping it out as soon as we find a suitable replacement and can take the time to do it.

So what ever happened to this set?

I have a client who has this set in her home, but she is left with only one working burner, see the Super post from earlier.
