Jet Dry Basket Rinse Aid (Pictures) - After Only One Load

I did not want to hijack another thread, but at the same time, I doubt there would be much interest in this, but I wanted to post this because I was kind of shocked! In another forum, Andrew was taking pictures of his new WP and he had a jet dry basket and I brought up that they dissolved so quickly that I stopped using them, but I had a new pack under my sink that are unused since I got a new dishwasher. There was a short period of time in my older dishwasher that my rinse aid leaked so I bought these jet dry baskets to use and ordered another cap for the rinse aid dispenser leak which helped.....

Today, I ran a load of a packed dishwasher in my Maytag using autoclean/hi temp/tough scrub and steam sanitize/no dry....the jet dry is HALF GONE after only one load? It dissoved pretty fast in my other dishwasher, but not this fast! Andrew, I tried to put it in the same area you put yours

Cycles are so much longer than back in the day when machines might not have a rinse aid dispenser. Seems like even BOL machines have them, now, as the rinse aid plays more of a role in the drying process than back when high-wattage heat took care of the job.

Still....you'd think Jet-Dry would have reformulated their product to dissolve more slowly in the era of 2 to 3 hour cycles.

By putting some in a container and yes, it dissolves very quickly. That even with the very short final rinse cycle of the Mobile Maid.

If you are around it might be best to simply wait until the rinse cycle to hang that JD dispenser. That or simply do what one has resorted to; wait for the final rinse to start filling and add a small squirt of rinse aid.

Stupid Moi found several bottles of Cascade clear rinse agent way in back of the under sink cabinet. This was *after* purchasing that tub of Ecolab solid Jet Dry. So that is me for you. Anymore than a gram or maybe two in the final rinse causes all sorts of frothing problems in the MM so have been sticking with the Cascade for now. Once that is gone who knows...

You can read online reviews about how pitiful many find the new Jet Dry solid. Results are pretty much as you found; by one or two uses the stuff is mostly gone.

I use the Jet-Dry basket as I have no rinse aid dispenser. .I run this machine daily twice if its a holiday or special occasion the basket lasts me just about 3 weeks.only place I can find it is a Walmart in a neighboring town 30 minutes away. I ran out a few weeks ago and I notice a huge difference in how clean the dishes are. I agree these surely arnt formulated for current machines with long cycles. But for me with no dispenser what are my other choices. Cheryl

That actually surprises me.... Mine has only shrunk a little bit and I've been using it in the Whirlpool. Although, mine is clipped to the very corner of the rack and usually has dishes positioned around it, so water doesn't hit it directly from the arm, just from water splashing off surfaces, or at most from the upper spinner. You have it positioned a bit more in direct line-of-fire, and the Maytag already has some hefty volume coming from those arms. Even in my Maytag and the PowerClean, they never shrunk like that.

Could it have dried up a bit from being in storage for so long? I know that a couple of times I've bought them, they were more dry than usual and crumbled if not handled carefully.

They're by no means a permanent method for rinse aid. I originally tried them when I was afraid the PC wasn't dosing properly, but I liked that it gave the racks and everything a smoother glide while the dishes were still squeaky clean, so I kept using them. Then I switched out for the Maytag-Voyager to decide on whether I wanted something new, and then finally, I've had the WP WDT920, and the baskets have done well in all three.

Also, I'm more of a Normal Cycle kind of guy, so perhaps the less intense wash temps and only having a 140 degree final rinse in all three machines prevented the solid from dissolving quickly. I'm of the mindset that if a machine can't do its job with decently dirty clothes or dishes on its Regular or Normal cycle, it doesn't belong in my house. Thankfully I've lucked out and been graced with very well behaved appliances so far...

But yes... I think the main thing is keeping the basket out of direct spray.

They were perfectly normal looking and not crumbling or anything when I took one out of the box and put it in.....I have no use for them but I didn't want to waste them, and seeing your post reminded me that I had them, so I decided to try them again to see what would happen.

It could be the spray, but I think it's the heat, and the fact that I used steam sanitize with autoclean yesterday probably didn't help matters keeping it from dissolving too quickly.

I have my dispenser set to dispense the lowest amount of rinse aid possible, because I figured since I'm using Finish Powerball that has rinse aid in it, that I did not want to overdo it.

Maybe, you could experiment with making a shield with an old plastic tumbler or something. More than the spray power I wonder if it is the extreme heat?
