Well, We Did It!
This morning Karen and I stopped by our local Maytag store and talked to them about buying a spin cycle. This was VERY hard to do for us to prevent from cracking up.
Here it is:
We walked in the front door of the Maytag Store in The Woodlands, Tx, a nice upscale area. We were met by a nice middle aged man named Gary. We told him that we were considering buying a used washer for my sister, but the seller told us it needed a new spin cycle.
Me: Do you have a spin cycle in stock for this machine, or is it a special order item?
Karen: You know if the spin cycle is gone, them maybe we should buy a agitate cycle too as it might be ready to go.
Gary: (30 seconds of silence) How do you know the spin cycle is shot?
Me: The unit drains but won't spin. All it needs is a new spin cycle.
Gary:
Well, you probably do need a new spin cycle, but it isn't packaged like that.
Me: You mean you don't have a package for this machine labeled "Maytag Spin Cycle"?
Gary

Looking at us like this is some kind of Candid Camera show) No, there is more to it than that. You have to find out WHY the machine isn't spinning. It could be a transmission or it could be the motor.
Me: The seller didn't indicate that it needed a new motor or transmission, just a spin cycle.
Karen: And don't forget about the new agitate cycle too.
Gary: I don't think the guy who is selling you this machine has it right. You can't buy a spin cycle or an agitate separately. You have to find out what the problem truly is and then replace those parts. The agitate cycle goes in one direction and the spin cycle goes in another direction. They are all controlled by the transmission.
Me: I guess we were mislead.
Karen: Well, you know how dangerous the internet is to buy stuff from......
Gary: I guess you guys have it in a nutshell. I would look for a machine that is working properly. Those older Maytags are really good machines you know.
Me: Well thank you for your time.
And we left. As we were driving off we could see Gary standing in the door with a BIG smile on his face. I'm willing to bet it made his day too!
