Hang in there, I know this is a major lost to you and your family.
Take time and cherish the good times that you have with him. You have done your best to keep him in good health till the end.
I hope you have many picture of him and I wish you my deepest sympathy.

Larry

Thanks again everyone.

Your messages mean more than you will ever know. I really appreciate everyone's post and am taking each one to heart.

I was up to get the kids off to school but it wasn't the same. I used to have to wake Tank up to get him to go outside and then hide is medicine in his treats. It was hard not to do that this morning.

I went back to bed and took a couple hour nap. Head still hurts but I must get a move on as life does go on, no matter how much it hurts. :(

Thanks again.

Heather please know that you have been in my thoughts. The loss of a pet is a very difficult thing to deal with. Terry

Heather

You have my sympathy and prayers. I had the same thing happen with an older dog I raised from 1 week old to 15 years. If I said s&*t,he'd squat and strain!Max was a toy collie and was left behind as a puppy in a house that was being demolished to have I95 go through. He was spoiled rotten by neighbors who loved him too. But,he would listen and do neat tricks I taught him.His right hind paw was completely backwards but had no effect on any of his abilities. He died of old age and was in my lap when he had his last breath. At first,I wouldn't have another pet but was given another dog two weeks after he died. That really helped me to adjust to his loss and be able to transfer the love of dogs to another great hound. You may want to think about getting another. Not to replace him but to show how much dogs mean to you and yours.Take care and aloha!

Heather,
Sorry about your situation with your baby. It sucks big time.
Our four legged friends are the only ones that understand us the most. Always there. Same spirit towards you no matter what.
It is really a gift to us humans.
You were a good parent. It is a part of life that many people will never experience, and I feel so sorry for them. I think they be it cat, dog, hamster, fish, any living thing that can give you unconditional love teaches you so much about life. It changes you and you never forget their friendship. It is something that is hard to find in a human.
Sorry for your lost.
Brent

Getting another dog..........

Have been thinking about fostering a dog or two for awhile (even before we lost Tank), just to have one around until I can decide on what kind of dog would be best for us. I found an adorable dog whom a rescue site says that he is in despreate need of a foster home.

Just missing the tip tap of the nails on the hardwood floors or tile and the buzzing of the snoring. Since I am home 24/7 (and have been since my first child was born in 2000), it's too dang quiet by myself! I don't watch TV during the day and veyr rarely have music on. I almost went crazy today here at home but didn't want to go out either because my eyes are bloodshot and I look like crap. Didn't know when I would burst out in tears as well, happened many times today.

Thanks again for your stories & well wishes. I treasure them all!

Oh Heather look at you willing to adopt a needy doggie!

I was a student in the south Bronx when I came across a blinded cat in a bodega (small local grocery/convenience store).

I melted as (s)he approached me!

My heart was in my mouth when I had seen what some b@$t%rd had done! I was able to adopt two cats over the years to save their lives. To this day, I prefer (read: have a weakness for) animals that are not perfect, but rather are perfectly lovable! Perhaps an animal that others would not keep around!

Truly truly I say unto you, you are blessed for your actions, lady!

I have seen a dog on Craigslist that has been posted, someone has taken him, realized they can't handle him, and back on Craigslist he goes. He is a deaf Great Dane, with one blue eye and one brown eye. He is also all white.

While my heart was on the floor with wanting him from the first time I saw him, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it would not work for my family. He is HUGE and it would be tight getting him the the car with the kids & our stuff if we go anywhere. Also, we have an acre of land that is not fenced. Since he is deaf, it would be very hard to make sure that he was always closeby (without getting a small pen and keeping him in there, which I can't condone).

I hate that he is being bounced around though and if I can help another doggie from that same fate, then I will.

My sympathies as well, Heather. I went through it a few short years ago. It's tough now, but it'll get better. Just hang in there and memories are a wonderful, if not sometimes painful, thing.

Four-footed people are the nicest.

I agree, there times when animals are a lot nicer than humans. I had to have my cat Tabitha put to sleep several years ago, and it was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. I fear that I will have to do it again in the near future with her sister Ashley. Just remember all the love and good times.

Getting a foster dog tomorrow!

A new doggie will be in our house tomorrow evening. A poor dog that was going to be gassed to death in North Carolina and was saved at the last minute and brought to Wisconsin. A lovely female beagle. I haven't seem her pic yet, know her name, nor do I know anything about her but I guess I will get a crash course tomorrow!

Got Sam instead.......

Sam's foster Mom had a medical emergency so I took Sam and the beagle went to someone with an apartment since she was smaller.

Sam is a red merle Aussie mix. He has beautiful eyes, with silver streaks in each eye. Knows how to sit, is starting to know fetch but is SUPER strong for a 36# dog and needs some leash manners!

Took him in the car to Petsmart today, he was really good except for when he saw a German Shephard, then he had to let out a bark and sort of lunge at him. I decided it was time to go!

I am sure he will find a home soon, he's so sweet!

Oh, Heather!

Sam is adorable. If he doesn't try to eat the children, I think you all should just keep him! (That is one reason why I don't foster. My landlord is the other.)

Good luck with this adventure.

Eat the children........hee hee!

Lawrence-He just licks them and wants to be where my daughter is all the time. He loves her. :) He has never been around kids that we know of (in foster care anyway) and he's great. We took him for a walk this afternoon when the kids got off the bus and he was thrilled.

Also took him to Petsmart and everyone there loved him. Slightly agressive to a german shepherd but great with all people.

I would think about keeping him but he really needs a fenced in yard to play and roam in and we have 1 acre, not cheap to fence in! Also, it seems like I am slightly allergic to him, my eyes are itchy. Have to remember to wash my hands more often not touch my face!

te he he he.

If you had gotten the female I was going to say "lucky bitch!"

oh and the dog has it good too (ducks and runs)!

When the rght one comes along, you'll know!

Hey now!

I know I am a lucky b*tch, in everything in life! Family, friends, etc. ;-)

Off to the dog park......wish me luck!

Hey Heather. I can't help but love that image of Tank. May I be so bold as to say perhaps you can make it your Avatar?

:-)

Updated with the B & W focal version of this photo. I had this one enlarged and framed for my entryway.

Thanks Toggle for reminding me to add a photo. No one wants to see my ugly mug anyway. :-)
