lovely

That's a lovely find..gorgeous metal top design and a beautiful bowl! Health to enjoy.
I have a Kenwood 'Chef' 901(hope that's not a swear word 'round here!) that will whisk a quantity of egg whites to 'very stiff' in 70 seconds.....race ya!!:)

wow

I have never been able to whisk my egg whites to 'very stiff' in as short as 70 seconds....

This harkens back a few posts to my feelings of inferiority about my equipment. :-I

beauty!

Damn Gary you have the best Kitchenaid luck!!!

I am totally jealous!!

congrats on a great find for sure!!

Kitchenaid 4-C

Kitchenaid mixers were once sold door to door. The 3 and 3-B were the "slip them into something cheaper" if they wouldn't buy the 4. Later it morphed into the 3-C which looked like this one but had a three quart bowl. The 4-C was a breakthrough with the extra capacity, wider base and bigger whip. No mixer, ever made on the planet is as easy to use or creams butter and sugar as easily or completely as the 4-C. I always wished Kitchenaid would make an all purpose whisk/beater for the bigger machines. To get optimum results in baking you need to cream with a whisk and then clean it off and change to the paddle for dry ingredients.
The glass bowl for the Kitchenaid is VERY RARE and worth a small fortune. These go for as high as 130.00 on Evilbay. The glass bowl will also work on a Classic and the Ultra for a retro deco look.
It would be great if a manufacturer would reissue the glass bowl.
Just makes you want to beat and cream, doesn't it, Gary ?!?

Just makes you want to beat and cream, doesn't it, Gary

Oh Kelly,

You know just the right things to say to get a stir(Blush)

Actually, a dear friend spotted this mixer the day before, and told me about it. Yes, we made the journey back to the Salvation Army and snatched that one away quickly.

Washing your Hands

If you use the Soft Start feature and make sure to use slow speed before raising the beater, you should not have any need to wash your hands.

Gary, excellent find! I have a 3-C in white and LOVE it; I have been convinced that there is no better mixer in the world for batters than a 50's KitchenAid. Absolutely no scraping necessary; the beater in conjunction with the narrow-base bowl gets it all!

Wow Gary, that is just a great find. I agree with Kelly's suggestion and can't imagine you hadn't already pursued that course on your own already! I know I would! Love to be there to assist!

So the glass bowl locks into the base the same way as a modern "Classic" model? That's great too.

I have a set of shredder/grater attachments that are pretty old that I found at a yard sale. I use them with my modern "Ultra Power" machine. The graters themselves are stainless steel but the housing is all aluminum and has the KA logo written out in an upright style script on the front-facing part of the "hopper," very 50's (or maybe older?). Anybody know what vintage this attachment assembly really is? Might work perfect with your machine there Gary.

You are on one heck of a cosmic KA roll Gary!

Enjoy!

Ralph

Oh Gadge, No!!

That wasn't an order. I got so excited that I forgot the
"me" before the "that" . I just thought it might work.
Now you must send me your shipping address, as some time in the midlate Summer, I bought you a lovely accessory "piece"
for your table. Don't want to take the chance that I won't draw your name for Secret Santa!!!!

Shredder

The shredder body turned plastic in the late 70's. The earliest shredder body is rounded aluminum and in the 50's the shape was more squared and "modern" looking,

Great find GG

Gary, you have the coolest stuff! I'm envious!

I have a KA4B, but the set screw is missing and the bowl needs to be retinned. Your new find is absolutely gorgeous dahlink!

I won't comment on beating and creaming this morning. I might give myself a hot flash.

Say hello to Gaylord also...I see in the pic he is trying to grow some dreadlocks.

Gary, that is a handsome mixer! That's always been one of my favorite KA mixers.

Kelly, it is so interesting to learn about the KA mixers. I'd no idea they were sold door to door, and I didn't know that the "3" series mixers were smaller, I had always just assumed it was one model before the 4's, LOL. These must always have been used primarily in upscale homes as I saw only Sunbeam and Hamilton Beach (and a few Sears or Wards derivatives) in our solidly middle class world. I only saw KAs growing up in one of those discount catalog showrooms we had. Even our premier department store, Daytons, did not carry them at that time. I never really started seeing KAs in homes til the 90s when the other brands had already gone into solid decline.

I don't know if you've observed, but anytime the old metal meat grinders and shredders show up on Ebay they go quite high as well. I've never had an issue with the plastic ones though, and one friend who did got a whole new unit at no cost when there was an issue. KA is still pretty good with their customer service.

It's interesting too to learn about the "all purpose beater". I wish they'd made a unit of this size and appearance with the glass bowl, that has this beater plus the ability to make bread.
