Gary, that is a handsome mixer! That's always been one of my favorite KA mixers.
Kelly, it is so interesting to learn about the KA mixers. I'd no idea they were sold door to door, and I didn't know that the "3" series mixers were smaller, I had always just assumed it was one model before the 4's, LOL. These must always have been used primarily in upscale homes as I saw only Sunbeam and Hamilton Beach (and a few Sears or Wards derivatives) in our solidly middle class world. I only saw KAs growing up in one of those discount catalog showrooms we had. Even our premier department store, Daytons, did not carry them at that time. I never really started seeing KAs in homes til the 90s when the other brands had already gone into solid decline.
I don't know if you've observed, but anytime the old metal meat grinders and shredders show up on Ebay they go quite high as well. I've never had an issue with the plastic ones though, and one friend who did got a whole new unit at no cost when there was an issue. KA is still pretty good with their customer service.
It's interesting too to learn about the "all purpose beater". I wish they'd made a unit of this size and appearance with the glass bowl, that has this beater plus the ability to make bread.
