Go for it Jeff!! Would be easy to have the front painted to match those beautiful Turquoise Appliances just waiting for there new home!! Terry

I'll bid tonight

I sent the seller an email to find out where they are. I also talked to Fred and if won it can live in his basement until I find a house.
Fred said its the same series he has in his kitchen!

just heard back from the seller...

This is in Oak Lawn, SW burbs, maybe about 30 minutes away... not bad at all!!

It's a KDS 17-A, the energy saver dry heat off button (brown) was a later mod. Solid machine, but only a bottom wash arm. Unless you keep the bottom rack limited to plates only,(no bowls or anything to block the top rack) the top rack does not wash well at all. I think the best KA's are the ones with the top wash arm as well. I love my KDS 20, even though the sure-temp water heater is a farce. It only heats the first fill!

Also, if you are considering this 17-A, be sure there is no or minimal rust in the sump area. They tend to start rusting thru at this ripe old age.

well I haven't won it yet....

Whats the approximate age of this contraption?

I love the coppertone color!
The seller told me its still installed and washing beautifully. It will be removed in the next week or so when the kitchen remodel starts.

Avocado Green

Back in 1984-1985, I bought this exact model(with the extra energy saver dry pushbutton) second hand for $100. I replaced the racks(top and bottom at a cost of about $100 a piece), and this dishwasher worked perfectly till I sold it with the property. Who knows, it could still be working(spray painted the front almond to match the new appliances before I sold). It was a great machine and cleaned like a charm. I still love my present KA(Model#KUDS220T4), but, please explain the 'farce' about the sure temp water heating.....what do you think it should be doing that it doesn't?

Sure temp water heating feature says you can lower your hot water tank to 120 degrees. That's great for the first fill, whether it be the prewash or first main wash, depending on the cycle selected. What about the rest of the washes and rinses? My KDS 20 only heats the first fill, as indicated by the water heating indicator, and so does my Mom's KDS 22. You can get a heated last rinse if you select the sani rinse.
I sure keep my tank at 140 degrees! Beside that, I still think that series of KS's were fabulous. Excellent cleaning, and the 22 has tons of sound insulation, you can barely hear it.

KD22

Bobby,

I agree with you that the KA 22 cleans beautifully. Just wish it had the little impeller on the top. Occasionally, I get deposits on the indentations of the bottoms of the coffee mugs. But overall, it cleans fantastic and is very very quiet. I too keep my water heater set at 140 degrees and have had no problem with the KA or with my GE2800.

Waah. What was I doing when this was listed? Todd's taxes! I can only hope karma has something even better in store for me. But what could that possibly be? A KDS-16? (I love them so).

Good luck, Jeff! I see by the vacuum-in pics that you have already witnessed the splendor of this machine.

GadgetGary, in your opinion, which one cleans better, the KDS 22 or the GE 2800? I never used a 2800 personally, but they always got rave reviews, with the orbiting wash arm and all.

Well, based on comments DADoES made about his KDS22/KDS23, he'd stop the machine, even on S&C and make sure all residue had been removed form stuff that had sat for a week. My 1200 would do better even without any "coaxing".

KA vs. GE

Bobby,

It is a tough call. I think both machines are EXCELLENT performers. They both clean the dishes no matter what you throw in. I think the KA dries a bit better since it has the fan, but, dishes come out of the GE equally dry. As I stated, my only complaint with the KA is occasionally some residue left in the bottom of coffee mugs(more noticeable since I have some black mugs). That KA in the auction had something on the top to spray down on the dishes if I am not mistaken. It was only a small impeller that would shower water down on the top of the dishes.

Appnut: What is S&C in reference to? Your 1200 has the same wash system as my 2800. Those dishwashers worked perfectly.

I am glad that I have both. And I do use both of them.

Gary
