KD-10 SHAFT SEALS

Since this topic came up in another thread, I thought it would be easier to find it again someday in the future if it had its own thread.

The KD10 had the horizontally mounted motor and pump assembly and it looked very much like a modified SM style pump from the small counter mounted commercial machines that had the rounded hoods way back in the day!

The part number for the seal is 23682 and YES there are actually 2 left in the country.

They are both available from the Hobart office in Akron, Ohio and they cost 23.40 each.

If you find yourself out of luck there, it is a US Seal part number PS-631 seal. I don't know if US seal still manufactures it, but it is a 1" shaft seal per their specs.
Hope this helps anyone who may need one or wants one as a spare.

that was my thread about the 77107 seals, and akron is close by too. i may go ahead and buy one for that future kd-10 that i will most probably find here sooner or later.

and i could always just re-sell it if i don't find such a machine.

Maybe same as 5308015092 ?

The 5308015092 ( old Q9303 ) Fridigaire seal for old Westinghouse front loaders fits other machines too. It is at times not available, and other times many places have them. 4 years ago I could only find them bundled with the bearing kit 5300137158 of two 6205 bearings and one seal. This was with an exhaustive fractal internet search.

Today several places have the seal by itself. A-1 Appliance parts is were I bought the last one about 1 month ago. There are outfits that have old stock and adding them to their sites, the same site 4 years ago said none.

This seal has a 52mm OD the same as a 6205 ball bearing, and the sealing is about for a 1" shaft. I will have to measure a shaft 5303261165 it mates with tonight to get an exact dimension. The seal rides on a brass piece slightly larger than the main 25mm shaft.

Chicago Rawhide once made washing machine seals. They are now part of SKF bearings

There are pockets of stuff like this that are not always linked to the internet too.

Hey Steve

What year did they stop making the SM and LM machines ?

We had a SM in our church. Cleaned pretty well, except those 16x16 racks didn't hold much. Never had the pleasure of running a LM.

LM'S and SM'S

Eddie, the LM was a super sized SM but took the 20x20 racks so they held more. When I went to dishwasher school in '83(IIRC),
they had already stopped building them. The SM's continued thru the 80's but by the end or that decade, they stopped producing them too. Just not enough places were ordering them.
In the early 90's Champion Industries came out with a Model RM-16 which was a clone of the SM for Pancake House and it also had the roll top and took a 16x16 rack.
They were not a huge seller either so they stopped making them too. Just too limited a market. Remember how every Dunkin Donuts had a Hobart UM or WM? And I was just talking about a Donut shop On Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Hts, NY that had 2 UM's that they washed all their cups saucers and plates in. Oh Man all that hot water spraying around in there. But all good things must pass! All these places wound up going to paper service and the dishmachines got tossed out.

the ones with the big chrome handle you swung down and the red start button on the side???
I remember two in Kay's Drugs in Schenectady when I was a kid. It was a real soda fountain and those machines were always running all day long!
