Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wasn’t sure on the model, thought the 14 series looked different than this, but I’m not the expert either... I’m mostly interested in either a KDSS-16 or 17

Reggie, just the 14 series Custom looks like this--resembling the 12 series.  The Imperial and Superba 14 series models do look similar to what you think of as the 14 series.  The item just above the door lock handle is the switch you flip horizontally to start the dishwasher.

KD14

This model is my daily driver. Very good cleaning with one short cycle. The draw back is, it does not have a door switch! You can open it any time in the cycle and it keeps running. I doused my kitchen (and myself) finding this out.

I unleashed a fountain when I opened the lid on that top load Kitchenaid, the thing stopped but there was still plenty of momentum going, water splashed everywhere!

There is supposed to be a door switch. It might not be operational, but there is supposed to be one.  You have to refrain from swinging the door wide open until the water all returns to the sump and then you don't get soaked. With the top loaders, you have to hold the door down  after you unlatch the lid to give the water time to settle.

Door switch is inside door

The switch is in the door underneath the latch mechanism. Looks like it could be tricky to get to. It’s the item on the diagram without an item # (cut off in the pic).
