this was on e bay last fall with a starting price of $1.00 and no one else bid on it so i got it for a buck!

i did send the guy another 50 bucks for it as i felt it was worth more than a dollar! jim picked it up in philidelphia for me and delivered it last nite.

i love these old kitchenaids and have 2 kd-12's but don't have a kd-10 or kd-11 and this is my first kd-14. i wanted this one as it's the last model before they completely changed their design and introduced the hydrosweep with the kd-15 in 1964.

this is a gravity drain model like one of the kd-12's i have. i like the gravity drain models better. they seem simpler, in fact they are!

it was after dark when jim arrived so i just left it in the driveway til this morning. i had no idea what i was getting till i looked at it just now! i think it looks good so here are some pics for anyone interested in these beautiful old kitchenaids!

i see they introduced

a detergent cup with the 14 model. my kd-12's don't have it and there was no 13 model so this has to be the big new feature of the 14.

it's a funky lookin thing!

the biggest change i see

with the 14 model is the timer! my kd-12's have a wash followed by 2 rinses and that's it!

the 14 models have a double wash and 3 after rinses! now that's a big difference! i'm gonna love using this one when i get it rebuilt.

in fact that's the reason for the detergent cup addition no doubt. previous models didn't need it.

this pic shows

the motor and the gravity drain line. all looks good from here and i bet this one will need little work. i did order a new pump seal from hobart just in case. there are about 6 of em still out there in various locations across the country if anyone else needs one. just call your local hobart office. i have the part no. if anyone needs it.

lastly

i see the spray arm is a bit different on the 14 models.

the water slit at the ends is in a L shape compared to the
spray arms on the earlier models, or at least the 12 series.

well that's it

for the kd-14. i will bring it inside today but it will probably be awhile before i begin working on it. my rollermatics are ahead of it on the list to finish.

but i am looking forward to restoring this beautiful classic kitchenaid!

it will feel right at home here in my "appliance" room waiting patiently for it's chance to shine again! hopefully i will have it done by summertime!
