It really is amazing how many of these old KAids have survived. They really are built like "tanks". Thanks for sharing these photos of your new treasure.

I found a KD-12 in SS not too long ago. Cast-off in a junk yard, when I opened the door it was evident it had hardly been used and was complete with the owners manual!
Unfornunately the timer knob was broken from "moving trauma".
Anyone have a spare?

Looks like a great machine, Pete! I had a friend of a friend who had a dishwasher like this in her condo and said she didn't use it because the machine didn't drain like it did when it was installed in her house... Maybe I should try and track her down... LOL

Hey Eddie...

I hit a snag with the rebuild...I managed to get working, but the drain solenoid and pump/motor gasket leaks

I have everything apart again...and found a new gasket in my collection and an used drain solenoid from my KD-12

I am thinking about converting this unit as a portable...hoping to find panels from a KDI-54P convertible or free standing KD-12 models....or I will have to find panels and make it work. I will also to jig a separate pump for the drain....I drain outlet is to high....maybe someone might have a KD-12P drain pump assembly?

My sewer drain outlet is too high. Gravity drain wont work in my house (off about 2") - cast piping in my wall. I will have to rig a separate drain pump or find another Kitchen Aid model with a drain pump attached to it.

I know these machines are smaller, and I am thinking building a portable cabinet/island that I can move around in my kitchen and attached it to the sink. Humm...trying to be creative....

unfortunately i don't have a drain

pump myself. only one of my kd-12's has a pump on it. i have a lot of kitchenaids but few parts for these older models. i don't have any timer knobs either, just the ones that are on my machines.

it would probably be easy to hook a drain pump on any of these. all you would need would be an external drain pump from any dishwasher or washer for that matter. you could easily reduce down off that cast iron drain outlet. i used a rubber boot and pvc bushings to reduce down to 1/2 pvc for my gravity drain model. i got all this at home depot. you would just have to wire the drain pump in thru a relay so when the solonoid kicks off and the drain valve itself opens the drain pump would turn on, a simple thing.

hopefully maybe someone here knows of a timer knob somewhere.
and i know most new dishwashers i have seen use an external seperate drain pump so that should be easy to obtain.
