Dishwasher Heating Methodology
HOW? This machine fills for the prewash without the motor running then sits and heats the water.
I think you answered your own question. At our last house we had that situation, the hot water tank was about 50' away from the kitchen. You'd have to run hot water for a long time to get anything above ambient temps before running the DW. We finally got a Maytag DW that heated the water. A KA 100F pre-rinse is much better than a 60F pre-rinse!
The difference between the Maytag and a KA is that the Maytag keeps circulating the water while heating it, the KA sits and heats first before washing.

I'll go back to Doctrine, I thought I read where the 21A ( my machine ) also runs the heater on wash cycle in addition to preheating the first rinse. I'll get back on this. I may have had too much coffee at the time, we'll see.

It very well may heat water while running. I guess the way to check is to watch the "Water Heating" light when the machine is running. Now I wonder what temp the water gets heated to?

While the facts about heated water being cycled or not are forthcoming - It's a handsome machine..and that's not excluding better performing dishwashers. We're talking looks - it's a beaut.
