Cool Gas Dryer!

Very cool dryer. Looks to be in good shape.
Is this the "Match All" dryer that Kenmore had for awhile?
I don't think it had lighted controls.

Does anyone know if this dryer had the Modulating White Rogers Gas Valve System?

lighted console

you are correct, it is NOT a lighted console, it was just flashbulb reflection in one of those pics.

But it does look lik a sliding door/hidden knobs design, can someone confirm what I think I see?

Looks like the Match-All model, a friend used to have this exact machine. No lighted controls but that small rise on the back panel sets it apart from the similar concealed control washer and dryer from around the same time. Didn't the matched set have different dial knobs??

Always thought this was a very attractive dryer and very well featured for it's price point at the time.

Close...

But I don't think it's the cupcake. This one had a matching alphabet washer (Geodon had the washer for a short while). I don't know how any short housewife could see the controls recessed in the raised console. The match-all had a more generic vestigial panel with the controls recessed on the left side with a flip down cover.

It is difficult to see if this has a sliding door or not. The controls do look recessed. The sliding door washer is a 1967/68 Model 70 series, and this looks very similar so it could be the same model dryer, but a later version of the one that would match the washer exactly...hard to say. It may be a Match All though. The dial on the washer is different. The dial is round and has three small spike-like protrusions which almost make it look like a maritime dial.

If this is the Match All, this must have preceded the 1968 model that had the ramp like console with the recessed dial. The one above looks like it could match a Whirlpool better than a Kenmore.

Have a good one,
James

It did have the sliding door to cover the controls.
Sorry, thought I said that in an earlier post.
I had this dryer in the Electric version 100 years ago when I lived in New Orleans.
Great dryer.
Wondering if the Gas Version had the White Rogers Modulation Gas Valve.

Today's Design

This dryer has the mechanical design still used today, with the long top-mounted lint screen. I think this is the oldest design presently still on the market.

I still have the washer, and a matching dryer now, in the other concealed console design. Tim/Macboy is going to get these.

The dryer in the ad may or may not be the match-all (I have never seen a matching washer though), but I do think it has a sliding controls cover, you can see the black handle in the photo. The later match-alls until the mid 70s had a Whirlpool top without the Kenmore trademark indent.

Tim - The machines which I have contain a 7 in their model numbers which indicate series, so they are 70s or 700s. I don't know about the subject dryer here...would need a model number to know for sure. I'd say it's likely a 70/700 also.

I dunno.. I think these control panels are really unique. :)

Although, my thoughts were, wouldn't over time, the knobs collect dust, dirt, grime, etc, especially if the covers were left open?

I kind of like the closing covers though. Makes 'em look slick....
