Kenmore Dryer

Picked this Kenmore dryer up today from Craigslist, it’ll be living in my brothers laundry room.
It is incredibly quiet and looks to have been well kept.

Does anyone know the age of this dryer?

This is the first time I’d seen a Kenmore/Whirlpool dryer with the lint screen in that location.

Manufactured August 2nd to 6th 1993.  27"-width design matches the width of the super-capacity direct-drive washers, has the filter at the front.

That exterior looks showroom new.

An incredibly small percentage of society takes care of things like that this day and age.

It is very well kept, just 2 dings on the front of it,
Someone really took great care of it

27" WP Built KM Dryers

These were pretty solid dryers, at this age it should be serviced before putting it in a new home.

 

Remove the lower panel and then remove the black steel lint filter housing and clean it inside, also clean the blower wheel with a tooth brush. Then clean the floor of the dryer and pay special attention to completely cleaning the motor, reach into the exhaust pipe from the back and make sure to remove any lint.

 

If you have the dryer outside and have access to a compressed air source you can blow out lint from the motor& blower Etc. Also be sure the lint filter has no build-up on it, if so wash with hot water and strong detergent or run it through a DW.

 

This is the minimum that should be done and it can all be done without complete disassembly.

Could the fact that the lint trap is located at front indicate that this machine was equipped to accommodate a heated drying rack?

Narrowing the cabinet from 29" to 27", the filter housing and heater box are not behind the rear bulkhead, which allows more depth to maintain drum cu ft capacity.  The heater box is mounted to the base under the drum with a slim air duct behind the bulkhead.  The filter housing fits at front in the toekick sorta below the drum.

All WP frontloader-match dryers are of this design to accommodate stacking (no filter on top), and 8.8 cu ft models are 29" width to garner even more drum cu ft.

this takes a 'pulled forced air' style of drying rack.....

a unique gadget/selling point......but why waste a whole drying cycle for a pair of sneakers, when you could place them in front of the refrigerator grill and have them dry overnight for free...

its one of those things you have but almost never use.....
