Kenmore Dumpster Find !!!

My neighbor has been doing a remodel on her house and had a huge walk-in Dumpster in front of her house .Me being the junker that i am i took a peak in and there was an old green Kenmore washer buried in debris up too the top lid. The contractor came out and, i asked him if i could have the washer he said sure but the lady told him the washer had a burned out motor and she just wanted it taken to the dump.He said i could have it but i would have to un-bury it from all the debris to get it out. It took me almost an hour but i managed to clear a pathway to get my hand truck in there and got it out .It`s a 1969 Kenmore Model 700.When i got home i fliped it on it`s side and tried to turn the motor and it was bound up, I took the drive belt off and got the pulley on the motor to turn it was just stuck from sitting so long. I plugged it in and much to my surprise it started to wash and than spin Even the front panel lights still worked Wow another Vintage washer gets saved from the crusher !!!

I love the washer and the green color. For some odd reason, I always loved the brown agitators in the Kenmores too. Congrats on your timely find!

I always thought it was a little odd how the 700 and the Lady Kenmore were "more" automatic than the 800. One could say the 800 was much more flexable- because it was. The 700 was basically the LK without the automatic timer stops. My first washer was a gold 800 with suds saver. It was well used and had its issues by the time I got it but still my favorite.

Very nice save. See, a lot of time folks will say the "Motor is Bad". NOPE, Just do what John did. I have do that so many times. What a save.

Thats EXACTLY the same washer I grew up with!!!! Served our family of 4 for 28 years and moved to 4 different houses before it finally gave up.

Everytime I see a large dumpster at a house I fear for the innocent appliances, 80s pastel peach art work, and 70s shag carpet that is being abusively discarded because some simpleton just got a home equity loan and has watched too many fly by night "home improvement" shows.

Ed, there were actually more differences between the LK & the 700. The LK offered maximum wash time for all cycles, on the 700 it was only the whites cycle on PP and Normal. The colors cycles were 10 & 12 minutes respectively. Also the LK had timed detergent & softener dispensers. The 700 only had timed bleach. The LK also had a 3 speed motor, the 700 2.

Congradulations! Hi jhon how kool is that it's like unraping a gift just only with SHRUBS lol, i think i washed in all my neghbors machines very luckey i had a way with them some of them. Mrs woods was one she had heres in white after school i went down the basement with her son to play, he wanted to play with trucks, i played with her washer it was so kool because that model lit up and had that sophistacated marble control panel and the first softner dispenser ive seen on a super roto swirl agitator. I was jealous becase it was new and we had that old one cycle maytag washer ( I wished i had it today) i started wash and she came home early and i turn it of and left the house before she caught me, well at least here whites were soaking lol I thank brent my friend got in trouble ooooh the things we do for washers! Thanks for the info Bob. You're like an encyclopedia of washer cycles/features. I didn't know you had any control over the wash time on the LK (other than choosing whites or colors). I did know that it had all 3 dispensers. And a full panel light.

Any idea where the Kenmore with the big dial fit in the lineup ? I always thought it was from 1969 - 1970. And wasn't it the same basic setup as the 700? Auto temp setting with a cold overide switch.

Neat machine John. You sure know where to find 'em! ((--:: I had one of those back in the early 90s and loved it BUT it didn't love me and in those days the washers had the BEST of me as I didn't know what in the hell to do with them when they crapped out. It was always having problems and I think I exhausted every repairman in the area trying to keep it going. Finally I had enough of it and took it to the crusher. I wished now I had hung on to it as now I could have kept it going myself.
